The relaunch fills a critical gap left after TAAG suspended its previous Beijing service during the COVID-19 pandemic, strategically pivoting to Guangdong’s provincial capital.

ANGOLA/CHINA – TAAG Angola Airlines has announced the relaunch of direct flights between Luanda and Guangzhou, restoring a vital air link between Africa and Asia.
The service, set to commence in March 2026, marks a significant step in the carrier’s international network expansion and underscores growing bilateral ties.
Modern Fleet for a Key Long-Haul Route
The airline will operate the route using its modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, a choice reflecting its ongoing fleet modernization strategy.
This fuel-efficient, long-range widebody will provide enhanced passenger comfort and operational efficiency on the lengthy journey.
The relaunch fills a critical gap left after TAAG suspended its previous Beijing service during the COVID-19 pandemic, strategically pivoting to Guangdong’s provincial capital.
Guangzhou serves as a major commercial and manufacturing hub within the Pearl River Delta, making it a prime destination for facilitating trade, investment, and business travel directly with Angola.
Boosting Economic and Tourism Exchanges
The re-established connection is poised to significantly benefit both economic and tourism sectors. For Angolan business professionals and travelers, it offers direct access to one of China’s most dynamic economic regions, streamlining opportunities for commerce and cultural exchange.
Conversely, it simplifies travel for Chinese tourists and entrepreneurs seeking to explore Angola’s offerings, from the urban landscape of Luanda to the country’s renowned natural attractions, including its vast national parks and extensive coastline.
Tourism operators in Angola anticipate a positive impact on visitor numbers, benefiting local hospitality and service businesses.
Strategic Connectivity and Partnerships
The route is also a cornerstone of Angola’s broader economic development goals, which include deepening strategic partnerships with China.
This air link will facilitate easier movement for professionals engaged in major bilateral infrastructure projects, such as the construction of Luanda’s new international airport.
Furthermore, TAAG’s existing codeshare partnerships, including with Brazil’s Gol Linhas Aéreas, will enable streamlined connectivity.
This allows passengers from South America and beyond to travel via Luanda to Guangzhou, positioning TAAG’s hub as a pivotal gateway between multiple continents.
A Broader Modernization Agenda
TAAG’s decision to serve Guangzhou with the 787-9 is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance its long-haul competitiveness.
The aircraft’s lower fuel consumption and extended range support more sustainable and economically viable operations on demanding international routes.
The investment in this fleet upgrade is directly aimed at meeting elevated passenger expectations for comfort and amenities on lengthy flights, which is crucial for attracting and retaining traffic on the competitive Africa-Asia corridor.
