This strategic expansion aims to boost trade, cargo transport, and high-value tourism across these African regions although maintaining profitability will be challenging due to higher operating costs and intense competition.

TANZANIA – Air Tanzania has announced the addition of three new international destinations, Accra, Cape Town, and Victoria Falls, bringing its total network beyond 14 international cities.
This expansion strengthens Dar es Salaam’s role as a continental hub, enhancing regional connectivity across East, West, and Southern Africa.
The new Dar es Salaam–Accra service is one of the rare direct links between East and West Africa, offering reduced travel times and improved supply chain reliability.
Cape Town is targeted for premium tourism and business travel while opening new cargo opportunities. Meanwhile, the Victoria Falls route supports multi-destination itineraries linking beach resorts, wildlife safaris, and iconic natural landmarks.
This strategic expansion aims to boost trade, cargo transport, and high-value tourism across these African regions. However, maintaining profitability will be challenging due to higher operating costs and intense competition.
Success depends on Air Tanzania sustaining strong load factors, optimizing fare yields, forging partnerships, and securing cargo contracts.
By connecting these key tourism and business centers, Air Tanzania is positioned to support the continent’s broader vision for seamless tourism integration.
Enhanced connectivity is expected to drive longer stays, increase visitor spending, and stimulate economic growth in the countries served.
In addition to its recent route additions to Accra, Cape Town, and Victoria Falls, Air Tanzania has been actively expanding its network throughout 2025.
Earlier this year, the airline launched a direct Dar es Salaam–Kinshasa service, operating four weekly flights with its fuel-efficient Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
This route significantly enhances connectivity between East and Central Africa, making it easier for business travelers, tourists, and government officials to access these key economic hubs.
Air Tanzania’s expansion strategy focuses on connecting previously underserved city pairs across Africa, reducing travel times, and facilitating regional trade and tourism.
The airline has been growing its fleet to include both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, enabling longer-haul flights and increased capacity.
Its approach aligns with the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative, promoting intra-continental mobility.
By broadening its reach across East, West, and Southern Africa, Air Tanzania aims to strengthen Dar es Salaam’s position as a strategic gateway, supporting economic integration and regional tourism growth across the continent.
