Exclusive Uber Eats alliance to drive growth for Guzman y Gomez in Australia

Under this new agreement, customers seeking GYG delivery will be directed through two primary channels: the ubiquitous Uber Eats application or the brand’s own ‘GYG Delivery’ service, powered entirely by Uber’s logistics technology in the background.

AUSTRALIA – Guzman y Gomez (GYG) has forged an exclusive multi-year delivery pact with Uber Eats for the Australian market.

This strategic move designates Uber’s platform as the sole third-party delivery partner for the fast-growing Mexican food chain nationally, aiming to refine service and bolster franchisee economics.

Under this new agreement, customers seeking GYG delivery will be directed through two primary channels: the ubiquitous Uber Eats application or the brand’s own ‘GYG Delivery’ service, which will be powered entirely by Uber’s logistics technology in the background.

Company leadership stated this integrated approach is designed to enhance convenience for its Australian guests while streamlining operations.

The partnership includes plans for increased co-investment from both entities, focusing on delivering greater value and innovation to consumers.

A core objective is improving unit economics for delivery, which has become a substantial revenue pillar.

In the first half of the 2026 financial year, delivery contributed approximately 27% of GYG’s total domestic sales, underscoring its critical role in the company’s growth trajectory.

The exclusivity model is intended to support sales growth and secure more favorable commercial terms by consolidating volume.

GYG management emphasized that several initiatives have been established to ensure the transition to a single platform partner does not negatively impact restaurant sales performance, with franchisee benefits being a key consideration.

Guzman y Gomez founder and co-CEO Steven Marks remarked that the alliance transcends mere logistics, focusing on crafting a delivery experience that mirrors the brand’s standards for quality and speed.

He noted that innovation in customer connection is a central tenet of the collaboration.

This exclusive arrangement is confined to GYG’s Australian network, which comprises hundreds of restaurants. The company confirmed its operations in the United States, Singapore, and Japan will continue to utilize multiple delivery partners without change.

The deal signifies a deepening relationship between the restaurant chain and the tech giant, as the sector continues to prioritize optimized digital and delivery channels to capture market share.

For Australian consumers, it promises a more unified ordering interface, while for GYG, it represents a calculated bet on concentrated partnership to drive the next phase of domestic expansion.
