SAUDI ARABIA – Marriott International has reached a milestone of 100 combined open and pipeline hotels in Saudi Arabia, following the signing of an agreement with a fund managed by SEDCO Capital for a 1,100-room Courtyard by Marriott in Makkah.

Located within the landmark Masar destination, owned and developed by Umm Al Qura for Development and Construction, the hotel is expected to open in 2030.

Jerome Briet, Marriott International’s Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East & Africa, said the milestone underscores Marriott’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s dynamic hospitality market.

He noted the Makkah signing reflects confidence in the Kingdom’s tourism growth and infrastructure, aligned with Vision 2030.

The new hotel will strengthen Marriott’s footprint in the Holy City while offering a modern hospitality experience within the Masar master plan.

Spanning over 4,500 square meters, the Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar will feature 1,100 guest rooms and suites, multiple dining venues, event facilities including a ballroom, a fitness centre, kids club, and retail spaces.

The hotel aims to provide guests with convenient access to Makkah’s key landmarks and a welcoming environment for visitors.

Strategically located in the Masar destination, the project is part of a mixed-use masterplan that includes hospitality, commercial, retail, residential, and cultural spaces connected by a central pedestrian walkway leading to Masjid al-Haram.

The development is supported by the Transit-Oriented Development masterplan, enhancing urban transport infrastructure and improving visitor and resident experiences.

Abdulwahhab Abed, CEO of SEDCO Capital, emphasized the project’s alignment with Vision 2030’s goals to boost hospitality services for pilgrims.

He highlighted the development’s role in increasing year-round hospitality capacity, operational efficiency, and sustainable long-term value for investors.

Tourism in Makkah continues showing strong growth, driven by increasing religious and domestic visitation.

Developments like Masar destination are reshaping the city’s urban landscape and pilgrimage experience, supporting Vision 2030’s target of 30 million pilgrims annually.

Yasser AbuAteek, CEO of Umm Al Qura, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Marriott, noting it reflects Makkah’s evolving hospitality sector and shared vision for sustainable, high-quality development.

Marriott currently operates 44 hotels in Saudi Arabia across 13 brands, with over 11,000 rooms. Courtyard by Marriott is one of the company’s most global brands, with six properties in the Kingdom.
