SOUTH AFRICA – Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has introduced a real-time baggage tracking feature on its ACSA Mobile App, providing passengers with end-to-end visibility of their checked luggage.

Available since November 18, 2025, on Apple App Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery, this upgrade allows travellers to track bags from check-in handover through handling to aircraft loading.

Passengers simply enter their booking reference and flight date to access live status updates, offering unprecedented transparency throughout the baggage journey.

This initiative represents a milestone in ACSA’s ongoing digital transformation aimed at improving operational efficiency and passenger confidence across its airport network.

Interim Chief Information Officer Sello Makhubela highlighted the upgrade’s importance: “This feature strengthens trust in our baggage handling systems, which is crucial during peak travel periods. It marks a positive step toward enhancing the overall tourism experience in South Africa.”

Baggage mishandling has long been a pain point for travellers globally, often causing delays and anxiety. By empowering passengers with accurate, real-time information, ACSA is reducing uncertainty and enhancing customer satisfaction.

The feature also streamlines communication between airlines, ground handlers, and passengers, optimizing baggage operations.

ACSA operates key airports including O.R. Tambo International, Cape Town International, and King Shaka International, serving millions of passengers annually.

This digital advancement aligns with broader efforts to adopt smart technologies that elevate service quality and operational resilience.

Other functionality in the ACSA App includes flight status updates, airport maps, retail offers, and contactless services, all designed to deliver a seamless travel experience.

The introduction of live baggage tracking complements these capabilities and underscores ACSA’s commitment to embracing innovation.

As travel demand grows in the post-pandemic recovery phase, initiatives like these contribute to rebuilding passenger trust and driving tourism growth.

Enhanced transparency fosters smoother airport operations and a more comfortable journey for visitors to South Africa.

In addition to real-time baggage tracking, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has implemented biometric passenger processing at key airports to streamline security and boarding.

The company has also introduced advanced AI-powered predictive analytics for crowd and traffic management.

These technologies improve operational efficiency, reduce wait times, and enhance overall passenger safety and convenience across its airport network.
