Choice Hotels International expands into Kenya with three new franchise agreements

The new Kenyan properties include an Ascend Collection hotel located within the renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, a Clarion hotel, and a Quality Inn, both situated in Nairobi’s central business district.

KENYA – Choice Hotels International has officially expanded its footprint in Africa by signing agreements for three directly franchised properties in Kenya.

This expansion marks a significant step toward the company’s goal of increasing its presence across sub-Saharan and southern Africa, supported by a master development agreement targeting at least 15 new hotels in the region by 2030.

The new Kenyan properties include an Ascend Collection hotel located within the renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, a Clarion hotel, and a Quality Inn, both situated in Nairobi’s central business district.

These hotels are expected to open in early 2026, strategically positioned to serve both business travelers and tourists.

Aniket Shroff, an established franchisee with Choice Hotels in the United States, will lead this venture. This marks his first international partnership with Choice Hotels, highlighting the brand’s confidence in its franchisee’s ability to successfully manage new market opportunities.

Shroff commented, “Working with Choice Hotels was an easy decision. Their strong global portfolio, combined with comprehensive tools, resources, and support, has already helped expand my business. This partnership positions these Kenyan hotels for success in international and domestic markets.”

These additions will contribute to Choice Hotels’ growing Europe, Middle East, and Africa portfolio, which now features nearly 64,000 rooms, a 7% year-on-year increase as of Q3 2025.

The move builds on the company’s recent expansions, including doubling its French portfolio with 50 new Quality Suites properties.

Pat Pacious, Choice Hotels’ president and CEO, emphasized the significance of expanding into Africa.

Our rapid growth and performance demonstrate that Choice Hotels is well-positioned to help franchisees thrive in more destinations than ever. Africa, as one of the fastest-growing hospitality markets, represents a unique and promising opportunity,” he said.

Choice Hotels has also recently broadened its global reach with new market entries in China, Argentina, and Suriname.

In China, a master franchise deal with SSAW Hotels & Resorts added over 9,500 rooms to its Ascend Collection brand, with plans for further expansion nationwide.

In South America, the company added Radisson Blu Bariloche and Radisson RED Funes in Argentina and Radisson Hotel Paramaribo in Suriname to its portfolio.

This broad international growth solidifies Choice Hotels’ position as a dynamic global hospitality brand committed to strategic expansion and franchisee success.
