The new Brussels-Kilimanjaro service will operate twice weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday, using an Airbus A330-300 configured with 288 seats across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.

TANZANIA – Brussels Airlines has significantly expanded its African network by announcing a new direct route to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, commencing on June 3, 2026.

This addition marks the airline’s eighteenth destination in sub-Saharan Africa and its fifth in East Africa, joining Entebbe, Kigali, Bujumbura, and Nairobi, further cementing its position as Europe’s leading carrier to the continent.

The new Brussels-Kilimanjaro service will operate twice weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday, using an Airbus A330-300 configured with 288 seats across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes.

Round-trip fares start at €519 (US$563), making East Africa more accessible to European travelers eager to explore its wildlife, adventure tourism, and cultural heritage.

Kilimanjaro offers a gateway to Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, and proximity to UNESCO World Heritage sites like Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

This route not only enhances tourism to Tanzania but also supports business and cultural exchanges between Europe and East Africa.

According to Brussels Airlines CEO Dorothea von Boxberg, “Sub-Saharan Africa is our second home, and we are proud to expand our presence by adding Kilimanjaro to our network.”

“This new route reflects our commitment to connecting the continent with the world while fostering economic growth and sustainable tourism.

In addition to Kilimanjaro, Brussels Airlines will increase capacity to Freetown, Sierra Leone, and adjust services to Kigali and Nairobi for Summer 2026, optimizing their African network.

The airline also plans expanded flights within its European short- and medium-haul markets.

This strategic expansion comes amid a growing global interest in African tourism, positioning Brussels Airlines as a key player in facilitating seamless travel between Europe and Africa’s vibrant regions.

Brussels Airlines has long made Africa a key focus in its network, flying to more African destinations than any other European carrier. Adding Kilimanjaro strengthens its commitment to connecting Europe with East Africa’s fast-growing tourism and business markets.

With five East African destinations, alongside Kampala, Kigali, Bujumbura, and Nairobi, the airline offers extensive coverage of the region’s major hubs, serving diaspora members, business travelers, NGOs, and adventure tourists.

CEO Dorothea von Boxberg described sub-Saharan Africa as “a second home” for the airline, emphasizing their role in supporting local economies through sustainable tourism, trade, job creation, and cultural exchange.

This addition highlights Brussels Airlines’ ongoing dedication to Africa’s development and connectivity.
