Deliveroo UAE officially joins DoorDash, marking a new chapter in food delivery expansion

The acquisition, valued at approximately £2.9 billion (US$3.9 billion), has received regulatory approval from the European Union and other jurisdictions.

UAE – Deliveroo UAE has officially become part of DoorDash following the successful completion of the acquisition, marking a pivotal moment in the global food delivery landscape.

The integration, confirmed on October 2, 2025, signals a strategic expansion for DoorDash into key Middle Eastern markets where Deliveroo has a strong operational presence.

In an open letter, DoorDash Co-Founder and CEO Tony Xu emphasized that this transition is “the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one.” He reassured users that “the Deliveroo app and products you know and love aren’t going anywhere.

By combining DoorDash’s global scale and advanced technology, the company aims to serve more people, in more places, with greater impact across the region.

The acquisition, valued at approximately £2.9 billion (US$3.9 billion), has received regulatory approval from the European Union and other jurisdictions.

It enables DoorDash to strengthen its footprint in the Gulf, leveraging Deliveroo’s established network of 7 million active customers, 178,000 merchant partners, and 130,000 riders.

Xu addressed each segment of Deliveroo’s ecosystem directly. For consumers, the focus is on making the experience “even faster, smarter, and more delightful.”

For merchants, DoorDash plans to introduce new digital tools to help businesses “thrive both online and offline.” For riders, the commitment is to enhance support, safety, and efficiency, making delivery “easier, safer, and more secure.”

Miki Kuusi, Co-Founder of Wolt and DoorDash’s Head of International, has been appointed the new CEO of Deliveroo.

He will relocate to London in the coming months to lead the integration. Kuusi praised Deliveroo’s leadership, particularly founder Will Shu, for building a strong brand, world-class operations, and a great product. He expressed excitement about advancing their shared mission together.

DoorDash operates on a three-sided marketplace model, connecting customers, restaurants, and delivery drivers through a seamless digital platform.

It excels in logistics, real-time tracking, and AI-driven recommendations, enhancing convenience for users and visibility for merchants.

This model aligns perfectly with Deliveroo’s strengths in premium delivery, restaurant partnerships, and urban logistics.

Both platforms prioritize speed, reliability, and customer experience, making integration a natural fit. DoorDash’s technological infrastructure and global resources will empower Deliveroo to scale operations, improve delivery efficiency, and expand service offerings across the UAE and beyond.
