This represents the strongest annual growth across all economic sectors, with tourism, hospitality, and restaurant services together recording a 17.3% increase for the year.

EGYPT – Egypt’s tourism industry has recorded extraordinary growth, expanding by 19.3% in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024/25, according to the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation.
This figure stands as the highest annual growth rate among all economic sectors, with full-year tourism, hospitality, and restaurant services collectively increasing by 17.3%.
Several drivers have fueled this strong upturn.
The Egyptian government has prioritized investment in tourism infrastructure, enabling the expansion of hotel capacity, improvement in service standards, and the rollout of modern digital marketing strategies that have further increased the country’s attractiveness.
This robust foundation has made Egypt a key player in the regional recovery of travel and hospitality.
During the fiscal year, the country welcomed over 17 million tourists, a growth of 16.4% from the previous year.
This influx resulted in 179 million tourist nights, up 16.3% year-on-year. Egypt’s ability to sustain higher visitor volume is a testament to its investment in new resorts, premium restaurant experiences, and enhanced visitor services found across its iconic destinations, from Cairo’s museums to Red Sea resorts.
The country has also witnessed a rise in tourism spending, generating critical foreign revenue. According to Central Bank data, tourism earnings reached US$15.3 billion in 2024, contributing significantly to national GDP and job creation.
Exchange rates in the period averaged around EGP 48 per US dollar, making Egypt an affordable global destination while still supporting local operators through earnings in hard currency.
Government policies and successful marketing campaigns have played a role in attracting international visitors from Europe, the Gulf region, and beyond. Security enhancements and expanded air connectivity have contributed to Egypt’s image as a resilient and competitive tourism market.
The Ministry highlighted the sector’s role as a “powerful engine for national growth,” noting that tourism has also spurred downstream expansion in hotel construction, transport, and foodservice.
These gains underscore the importance of ongoing infrastructure investment to maintain momentum and further improve service quality for travelers.
With tourist arrivals projected to rise into 2026, Egypt’s tourism sector is poised to continue setting benchmarks as a regional leader, driving economic progress and global engagement.
