The initiatives feature three scenic viewpoints in Salalah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut, as well as a new public park in Rakhyut’s Shahab Asaib area.

OMAN – Dhofar Municipality has advanced four key tourism and leisure projects valued at more than RO2.85 million (US$7.4 million) as part of strategic efforts to enhance the governorate’s attractiveness and upgrade public facilities.

These initiatives form part of the Governorates Development Programme, focused on sustainable tourism development and improving residents’ quality of life.

The projects include three scenic viewpoints located in Salalah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkut, along with the construction of a new public park in the Shahab Asaib area of Rakhyut.

Each site has been carefully planned to preserve the unique natural and cultural identity of the locations, ensuring environmentally sensitive development in close collaboration with relevant authorities to protect local ecosystems and heritage.

In Salalah, the Itlalat Aftalqut project has reached around 30% completion.

This RO992,000 (US$2.6 million) development is situated on a mountain overlooking the sea and will feature rest areas, seating, restaurants, landscaped walkways, and essential public amenities.

It is designed to enhance visitor experiences while protecting the surrounding environment and promoting sustainable tourism.

Meanwhile, in Rakhyut, the second phase of the Itlalat Sha’at project is approximately 32% complete.

With investments exceeding RO1 million (US$2.6 million), this project will add new viewing platforms, expanded car parking facilities, rest areas, and extensive landscaping to one of Dhofar’s most popular natural attractions overlooking the Arabian Sea.

This development aims to attract both domestic and international visitors for recreational and eco-tourism activities.

Also in Rakhyut, the public park in Shahab Asaib is progressing well, with construction having reached 55% completion.

This RO468,000 (US$1.2 million) project will provide residents and visitors with green spaces, recreational facilities, and public amenities designed to promote community engagement, wellness, and outdoor leisure opportunities.

Dhofar Municipality’s Director General of Projects and Technical Affairs, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Baawain, emphasized that all developments are coordinated with stakeholders to ensure the preservation of Dhofar’s heritage while offering enhanced leisure and tourism infrastructure to serve future generations.

Once completed, these projects will not only boost regional tourism but also contribute to the sustainable economic growth of the governorate by attracting more visitors, increasing local business opportunities, and enhancing residents’ overall quality of life.
