RwandAir launches Kigali-Zanzibar-Mombasa route to strengthen regional connectivity, tourism growth

Starting December 1, 2025, the service will run four times a week with Boeing B737 aircraft, marking a strategic step in RwandAir’s regional expansion.

EAST AFRICA – RwandAir has announced the launch of a new route connecting Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, with two of East Africa’s premier coastal destinations: Zanzibar in Tanzania and Mombasa in Kenya.

The service begins on December 1, 2025, and will operate four times weekly using Boeing B737 aircraft, signaling a strategic expansion of RwandAir’s regional footprint.

This new Kigali-Zanzibar-Mombasa route significantly enhances travel options across Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya, providing seamless access to some of East Africa’s most iconic tourist locations.

Zanzibar’s pristine beaches, rich cultural heritage, and UNESCO World Heritage sites are major draws for leisure travelers.

Mombasa, with its vibrant coastal charm, historic forts, and coral reefs, presents a distinct allure to international tourists. Kigali itself is celebrated for its mountainous landscapes, wildlife experiences, and robust cultural scene.

RwandAir’s CEO, Yvonne Makolo, indicated that the route contributes to increasing Kigali’s stature as a vital regional aviation hub.

The schedule allows convenient connections for both leisure visitors and business travelers by linking flights from Kigali through Zanzibar and onward to Mombasa, forming a loop that supports easy round trips.

The launch reflects broader strategic initiatives aimed at boosting regional connectivity, supporting East Africa’s growing tourism industry, and reinforcing the carrier’s leadership in the market.

With tourism revenues steadily rising in all three countries, enhanced air routes like this create essential economic linkages, stimulate cross-border travel, and open new avenues for business collaboration.

Passenger convenience is a core feature of the new service. Travelers benefit from consistent, scheduled flights that provide reliable access to coastal and inland attractions.

The route facilitates not only vacation travel but also regional conferences and cultural exchange, aligning with East African Community goals to promote integration and economic development.

Kigali’s role as a gateway for outbound tourism expands with each new connection, and linking to Zanzibar and Mombasa exemplifies how East African destinations can seamlessly complement each other.

The Kigali-Zanzibar-Mombasa flight path is poised to become a preferred corridor for visitors seeking both adventure and relaxation along the continent’s eastern seaboard.

Overall, RwandAir’s new route is a testament to East Africa’s rising tourism potential and an enabler for regional economic growth, fostering greater mobility and opening exciting new horizons for travelers.
