The plan targets the development of 20 hotels with a combined 4,500 rooms in major Japanese cities over the next decade, set to redefine the country’s premium travel landscape

JAPAN – LOTTE Holdings, a major Japan-Korea conglomerate, has launched an ambitious new venture called LOTTE HOTEL JAPAN in partnership with Korea’s Hotel LOTTE.
The plan aims to develop 20 hotels totaling 4,500 rooms across key Japanese cities within the next ten years, reshaping the premium travel landscape in Japan.
At a press event in Tokyo, Genichi Tamatsuka, President and CEO of LOTTE Holdings, described the initiative as a central element of the group’s ONE LOTTE strategy.
The vision is to harness synergies between Japanese and Korean operations to accelerate growth in the hospitality sector, an area Tamatsuka said the group should have entered earlier.
LOTTE HOTEL JAPAN will operate and manage existing properties, including Lotte City Hotel Kinshicho Tokyo and Lotte Arai Resort in Niigata, while aggressively expanding its portfolio.
Target cities include high-profile destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, Sapporo, Kanazawa, and Fukuoka, chosen for their commercial vitality and tourism appeal.
The joint venture leverages Hotel LOTTE’s 50 years of operational experience and a global footprint spanning seven countries with 39 hotels and over 14,000 rooms.
The upcoming LOTTE HOTEL JAPAN properties will emphasize wellness, refined dining, and integrated technology to meet evolving guest expectations.
Fukui Tomoya, President of LOTTE HOTEL JAPAN, explained that the portfolio aims to accommodate diverse guest needs with a mix of luxury and small-luxury hotels.
Rooms are expected to range in price from about ¥50,000 to ¥100,000 (US$350 to US$700) per night, targeting discerning travelers seeking premium service.
The group plans to expand primarily through management contracts, allowing property owners to retain real estate while benefiting from LOTTE’s expertise and brand recognition—an asset-light model aligned with global trends.
This venture aligns with Japan’s rising tourism market and increasing demand for high-quality accommodations post-pandemic.
It marks LOTTE’s strategic pivot into hospitality as a growth engine alongside its established food and retail operations.
With cutting-edge amenities, wellness focus, and robust operational backing, LOTTE HOTEL JAPAN seeks to redefine Japan’s premium hotel sector and become a top player in Asia’s competitive hospitality industry within a decade.
