The renewed partnerships will pave the way for more than 50 new restaurant openings across both countries, driving the brand’s international expansion at an accelerated pace.

JAPAN/PERU – Sugarloaf TGIF Management, manager of the global TGI Fridays brand, has renewed its franchise development and master franchise agreements with long-standing partners Franquicias Alimentarias in Peru and Watami in Japan.
These renewed partnerships will enable the establishment of over 50 new restaurants across both countries, significantly accelerating the brand’s international growth.
Currently operating more than 30 locations across Peru and Japan, TGI Fridays continues to capitalise on strong regional demand for its casual dining and bar-driven concept.
The expanded franchise agreements pave the way for opening flagship outlets, hotel venues, airport locations, and smaller urban restaurants designed to fit diverse market needs.
In Peru, Diego Roca, founder of Franquicias Alimentarias, has successfully grown the footprint from just two locations to 20 and now targets up to 30 new restaurants under the renewed agreement.
Roca stated, “TGI Fridays allows us to bring energy, connection, and celebration to every table, keeping teams inspired and guests returning. This journey has been rewarding emotionally and commercially, and we’re just getting started.”
Japan represents a crucial growth market, with TGI Fridays firmly established in the casual dining scene.
The brand is adapting to high-rent, space-constrained urban centres by rolling out compact-format restaurants that retain the signature bar experience while optimising kitchens and seating.
For instance, the Yokohama Yamashitacho location operates in just over 150 square metres, serving 70 guests, making it both vibrant and efficient.
Phil Broad, President of TGI Fridays International Franchising, remarked, “TGI Fridays isn’t just another casual dining brand, it’s a proven high-energy concept with cultural resonance and commercial edge.”
He added, “The dedication of our partners in Peru and Japan highlights the strength of our model, operator passion, and universal appeal worldwide.”
This flexible franchise-driven expansion strategy supports growth in emerging markets while maintaining brand consistency and operational excellence. The company’s vision is to open 1,000 restaurants globally.
TGI Fridays continues to leverage its legacy as the world’s first casual bar and grill, now serving diverse communities with craveable American classics, legendary drinks, and a lively atmosphere that transforms dining into celebration.
With a deliberate focus on franchising and adaptability, TGI Fridays is poised to increase its global footprint and strengthen its position as a leading casual dining brand.
