Oman approves 73 new professional titles for hotels, resorts, advancing national talent, sector growth

By categorizing these new roles in line with approved economic activities across the tourism industry, the authorities ensure the new classification applies broadly to hotels, resorts, hotel facilities, rest houses, chalets, heritage inns, and guest houses.

OMAN – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, has announced the approval of 73 new professional titles for the hotel and resort sector, aiming to enhance labor market readiness and create more opportunities for qualified national talent.

These titles have been officially added to the Unified Gulf Guide for Occupational Classification and Description, offering a standardized reference for employers and government agencies as Oman’s hospitality sector continues to expand and diversify.

By categorizing these new roles in line with approved economic activities across the tourism industry, the authorities ensure the new classification applies broadly to hotels, resorts, hotel facilities, rest houses, chalets, heritage inns, and guest houses.

This structured approach supports the sector’s varied business models and accommodates properties of different sizes and specialties.

The latest roles approved span a wide range of skills and functions, reflecting the sector’s complex operational demands.

Employers can now seek talent for specific leadership and technical positions, including hotel general manager, resort general manager, procurement manager, security and safety manager, information technology manager, finance manager, and guest relations clerk, among others.

These clear role definitions enable businesses to strengthen hiring practices, improve performance standards, and develop management teams equipped for future growth.

This initiative is a cornerstone of Oman Vision 2040, which designates tourism as a driving force for economic diversification and local job creation.

The classification not only supports the identification and attraction of national candidates for sector jobs but also assists establishments in defining career paths and development frameworks.

As a result, local professionals are empowered to find opportunities that match their qualifications and ambitions within a robust hospitality sector.

Including the new professional titles in the Unified Gulf Guide brings Oman’s labor practices in line with regional standards, making it easier for employers to recruit from a wider regional talent pool if required.

At the same time, it reinforces Oman’s ability to deliver services that meet both domestic and international visitor expectations, supporting customer satisfaction and sector competitiveness.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism confirmed that this measure represents an ongoing commitment to preparing Oman’s tourism industry for upcoming investments and rising visitor numbers.

The classification update will help connect new graduates and experienced professionals alike with evolving opportunities, ensuring that Omani talent plays a central role in the country’s rapidly developing hospitality landscape.
