As demand rises for hotels and restaurants with robust green credentials, the Sustainable Hospitality Expo is designed to unite industry operators with the practical tools and ideas required to adapt to shifting traveler expectations.

SOUTH AFRICA – The inaugural Sustainable Hospitality Expo is set to take place from 18 to 20 September 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, marking a significant step for Africa’s hospitality industry as it accelerates its sustainability agenda.
Co-located with the Organic and Natural Products Expo Africa, this new event aims to provide a much-needed platform for Africa’s hotel groups, restaurateurs, property developers, and hospitality suppliers to connect with sustainable suppliers.
As demand rises for hotels and restaurants with robust green credentials, the Sustainable Hospitality Expo is designed to unite industry operators with the practical tools and ideas required to adapt to shifting traveler expectations.
Industry research shows an increasing preference among domestic and international guests for accommodations that champion eco-friendly practices such as energy efficiency, local sourcing, and mindful waste management.
The expo addresses this trend by gathering a diverse lineup of exhibitors and thought leaders to help businesses accelerate their adoption of sustainable systems and achieve recognized green certifications.
Over the three-day event, delegates will have the opportunity to interact with suppliers representing renewable energy technology, water-saving systems, environmentally responsible building materials, chemical-free amenities, and innovative commercial kitchen equipment.
Panel discussions, seminars, and interactive workshops will delve into essential topics such as the circular economy, carbon footprint reduction, community engagement, and the role of responsible procurement in building long-term business resilience.
Industry leaders and sustainability professionals are slated to share best practices and case studies, highlighting the immediate and long-term benefits that can result from investing in eco-friendly operations.
Small business owners, in particular, stand to benefit from the strong support pledged by the Gauteng Tourism Authority, which will help local entrepreneurs present new business concepts and expand their networks with established operators and investors.
Partnerships with platforms such as Hotelstuff/Greenstuff are expected to increase the visibility of African suppliers offering green solutions and encourage wider adoption across the hospitality sector.
This expo arrives at a time when Africa’s tourism industry is rebounding from pandemic disruptions, with growing emphasis on conservation, community-driven development, and climate resilience.
Projections suggest that South Africa’s ecotourism sector alone could surpass ZAR 200 billion (US$11.1 billion) by 2030, presenting major opportunities for businesses that embrace sustainable transformation.
Organizers of the Sustainable Hospitality Expo are confident that the event will help operators future-proof their offerings, strengthen their international appeal, and contribute to broader economic and environmental progress across the continent.
