In his new role, Kidd will oversee the day-to-day operations of Chipotle’s nearly 3,800 restaurants across multiple countries, supporting the company’s 130,000 team members.
GLOBAL – Chipotle Mexican Grill has appointed Jason Kidd, former global COO of Taco Bell, as its new Chief Operating Officer, overseeing operations of nearly 3,800 restaurants and reporting directly to CEO Scott Boatwright.
Chipotle Mexican Grill announced on May 6, 2025, that Jason Kidd will join the company as Chief Operating Officer, effective May 19.
Kidd brings over two decades of operational leadership experience from prominent roles at Taco Bell, 99 Cents Only Stores, Sam’s Club, and Hearing Lab Technology.
At Taco Bell, he served as global COO, managing large-scale multi-unit operations, a background that Chipotle expects will strengthen its operational capabilities across its extensive restaurant network.
In his new role, Kidd will oversee the day-to-day operations of Chipotle’s nearly 3,800 restaurants across multiple countries, supporting the company’s 130,000 team members.
He will report directly to CEO Scott Boatwright from Chipotle’s headquarters in Newport Beach, California.
Boatwright praised Kidd’s appointment, highlighting his proven track record and operational expertise as key assets to enhance guest hospitality and drive strategic growth.
“Jason’s vast experience in retail and restaurant operations will provide a strong foundation and fresh strategic insights to our executive team,” Boatwright said.
Kidd expressed enthusiasm about joining Chipotle, stating, “I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of Chipotle’s leadership team and excited to contribute to improving experiences for both our team members and customers.”
“The company’s focus on guest-centric culture and operational modernization aligns perfectly with my background,” he added.
This leadership change coincides with the planned retirement of Chipotle’s long-serving President and Chief Strategy Officer, Jack Hartung, who will step down on June 1 after nearly 25 years with the company.
Hartung will transition to a senior advisory role through March 2026, ensuring a smooth leadership succession.
Following Hartung’s transition, Curt Garner, Chipotle’s Chief Customer and Technology Officer, will take on expanded responsibilities overseeing the supply chain as President, Chief Strategy, and Technology Officer.
Meanwhile, Chief Brand Officer Chris Brandt will lead a cross-functional team managing menu and ingredient processes as President and Chief Brand Officer.
These executive shifts reflect Chipotle’s commitment to operational excellence and strategic growth amid evolving consumer trends and competitive pressures in the fast-casual dining sector.
