The Ritz-Carlton to debut first luxury safari camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara in August

The camp features 20 spacious tented suites, each designed to blend into the surrounding savannah. Perched above the river and savannah, suites start at 163 square metres and include private decks, plunge pools, sunken lounges, and indoor-outdoor showers.

KENYA – The Ritz-Carlton is set to introduce a new chapter of luxury hospitality in Kenya with the opening of its first safari camp in the Masai Mara this August.

The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp will blend the brand’s signature elegance with the unparalleled natural beauty of one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife reserves.

Set along the banks of the Sand River, near the Kenya-Tanzania border, The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp promises an immersive wilderness retreat with unrivalled views of the Great Migration.

From July to October, guests will witness millions of wildebeest and zebra traverse the plains between the Serengeti and Masai Mara in their timeless search for fresh grazing.

Outside of the migration season, the reserve remains abundant with wildlife, including the Big Five and over 500 bird species, offering year-round game viewing.

According to Helen Leighton, Vice President of Luxury Brands, EMEA, The Ritz-Carlton viewed the Masai Mara as one of the world’s most awe-inspiring destinations and aimed to bring the brand’s signature service to the region.

The camp features 20 spacious tented suites, each designed to blend into the surrounding savannah. Perched above the river and savannah, suites start at 163 square metres and include private decks, plunge pools, sunken lounges, and indoor-outdoor showers.

A four-bedroom Presidential Suite offers expansive living space for families and groups, complete with private dining areas and a kitchenette.

Each suite also includes a dedicated Encholiek—a Maasai companion assigned to provide personalised butler-style service throughout the stay.

Built with sustainability in mind, the camp uses solar energy, harvests rainwater, and implements extensive waste reduction practices.

All furnishings and construction materials have been sourced locally, supporting regional artisans and craftsmen.

In addition, local Maasai builders, guides, and storytellers contribute significantly to the guest experience, providing cultural authenticity alongside luxury hospitality.

Dining at the camp is equally immersive. Guests can enjoy bush breakfasts, sky deck dinners under the stars, or meals around the boma fire where stories of local traditions and history are shared by the camp’s experts.

Menus focus on locally sourced ingredients and African flavours, tailored to individual preferences. Private wine cellar tastings and refined fine-dining options further enhance the culinary offering.

The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp marks the brand’s first safari experience, positioned to redefine luxury travel in one of Africa’s most iconic landscapes.
