The largest portion, a hearty RM600 million (US$152 million), is the secret sauce for building 100 brand-new restaurants.

MALAYSIA – McDonald’s Malaysia has announced a thrilling RM1 billion (US$254 million) growth plan to dramatically expand its presence across the country.

This massive investment will fund the opening of 100 new restaurants, a major makeover for existing locations, and a big leap into digital innovation over the next five years, promising more choices, better experiences, and thousands of new opportunities for communities nationwide.

A Recipe for Growth: New Restaurants, Fresh Looks & Cool Tech

The company’s billion-ringgit recipe carefully mixes several exciting new ingredients to satisfy the country’s growing appetite.

The largest portion, a hearty RM600 million (US$152 million), is the secret sauce for building 100 brand-new restaurants, strategically bringing the famous golden arches to more neighborhoods, bustling city centers, and popular tourist destinations.

Another RM200 million (US$51 million) will be used to refresh the look and feel of over 150 existing McDonald’s, giving them a modern, vibrant upgrade inside and out to make every meal feel special.

The final RM200 million (US$51 million) is dedicated to a layer of tech magic, funding major upgrades to its mobile app, self-service kiosks, and digital kitchen systems to make ordering faster, pickup more convenient, and the overall customer journey smoother and more enjoyable.

Managing Director Datuk Azmir Jaafar shared that this comprehensive plan is all about meeting customers everywhere they are, supporting tourism hotspots, and building a more skilled, future-focused team for Malaysia.

Unveiling a New Concept and Creating Thousands of Opportunities

The delicious news was officially shared at the celebratory reopening of a local landmark: the newly transformed McDonald’s Titiwangsa Drive-Thru in Kuala Lumpur.

It now shines as Malaysia’s first ‘Luna’ concept restaurant, a sleek and stylish design with contemporary interiors that offers a premier dining experience and is only the second of its kind in Asia.

Beyond its own impressive growth, McDonald’s is also actively inviting more local entrepreneurs to join its journey, aiming to significantly grow its family of franchise partners over the next decade, which helps root the business deeper into local communities.

This expansive plan is a huge win for the Malaysian economy and job market, expected to create a scrumptious 10,000+ new jobs from Penang to Sarawak.

It means a wealth of opportunities, not just for restaurant crew members and managers, but also for all the local businesses that support the ecosystem, from construction and logistics to equipment supply and security services.
