The restored manor will feature 11 luxury accommodation units, reintroducing high-end lodging to an estate recognized as the first registered company in the Cape Winelands.

SOUTH AFRICA – Newmark Hotels & Reserves will officially reopen the historic Blaauwklippen Manor on February 1, 2026, restoring five-star hospitality to one of South Africa’s oldest and most significant wine estates.
The meticulous restoration of the 1682 estate’s Manor House and Jonkershuis follows a devastating fire in April 2024, transforming a moment of loss into a celebrated renewal of heritage and luxury.
A Restoration Balancing Centuries of Heritage with Modern Design
The April 7, 2024, fire caused extensive damage to the estate’s core historic buildings.
Guided by heritage architects and specialist craftsmen, the restoration project prioritized historical integrity, carefully conserving and reintroducing original materials like centuries-old bricks and fragments of antique Delft porcelain.
Acclaimed Cape Town designer Francois du Plessis led the interiors, creating a layered, elegant interpretation that alludes to the estate’s storied past.
Du Plessis stated that he reintroduced a classic, luxurious feel inspired by the majestic Stellenbosch Mountain surroundings, complemented by a creative, colourful, and slightly eclectic finish that celebrates the region’s natural beauty.
Reintroducing Luxury to a Formative South African Landmark
The restored manor will feature 11 luxury accommodation units, reintroducing high-end lodging to an estate recognized as the first registered company in the Cape Winelands.
Blaauwklippen CEO Roelof van den Berg emphasized that the reopening transcends physical restoration, aiming to revive a profound sense of place.
He noted that the estate has symbolized resilience, enterprise, and hospitality for over three centuries, and reopening after such loss powerfully demonstrates that heritage is actively carried forward.
Neil Markovitz, CEO of Newmark Hotels & Reserves, echoed this sentiment, describing the project as a profound milestone achieved through collective determination and a shared commitment to excellence.
A New Chapter for a Dynamic Destination
Today, Blaauwklippen operates as a dynamic destination integrating wine, culture, and community.
The reopening of its historic heart marks a pivotal new chapter, rooted in heritage but defined by thoughtful, contemporary luxury.
This project not only safeguards a crucial piece of South Africa’s viticultural and commercial history but also enhances the Stellenbosch region’s appeal as a globally competitive luxury travel and wine tourism destination, offering guests an immersive experience where centuries of narrative meet modern sophistication and comfort.
