ETHIOPIA – Ethiopian Airlines Group has confirmed a US$500 million commitment from a Chinese bank for Bishoftu International Airport construction near Addis Ababa.
The US$10 billion project aims to become Africa’s largest hub with 110 million passenger capacity.
CEO Mesfin Tasew Bekele announced this at the Africa Investment Forum in Rabat, Morocco. AfDB leads financing with its own US$500 million contribution already secured. Total costs reach US$12.5 billion including land and resettlement.
EAG markets the initiative globally to lenders from China, US, Europe, Middle East, and India. Responses remain strongly positive across regions. Private sector fills an US$8 billion gap through debt and equity.
