This alliance positions Lesotho to strengthen its regional and international tourism profile through the ATB, a leader in intra-Africa tourism promotion and cultural exchange.

LESOTHO – Lesotho’s Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts & Culture has signed a three-year partnership agreement with the African Tourism Board (ATB) to develop the country’s tourism industry.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), scheduled for signing on November 24, 2025, aims to create investment opportunities, promote sustainable tourism growth, and support youth entrepreneurship.
This alliance positions Lesotho to strengthen its regional and international tourism profile through the ATB, a leader in intra-Africa tourism promotion and cultural exchange.
The MoU focuses on sustainable growth, facilitating tourism investment summits, infrastructure conferences, and joint marketing initiatives to showcase Lesotho as a year-round tourism destination.
Key efforts will promote winter adventure tourism at AfriSki and highlight diverse landscapes, offering activities from skiing and mountaineering to cultural heritage tours.
The Winter Adventure and Trade Expo at AfriSki will attract adventure travelers seeking unique high-altitude experiences.
Investment summits and infrastructure meetings will focus on developing eco-friendly hotels, transport networks, and tourist attractions, aiming for world-class standards that preserve Lesotho’s cultural and natural heritage.
These efforts will encourage international investment, local job creation, and improve the quality of life for tourism communities.
Emphasizing cultural and eco-tourism, the partnership highlights Lesotho’s traditional dances, crafts, festivals, biodiversity, national parks, and wildlife tours.
By supporting responsible tourism models, Lesotho seeks to balance environmental conservation with economic growth.
Youth entrepreneurship is a central pillar, with training programs and mentorship designed to prepare the next generation of tourism professionals and entrepreneurs.
This approach ensures sustainable sectoral growth and community empowerment.
Lesotho’s collaboration with the ATB exemplifies intra-African cooperation, fostering regional tourism products, multi-destination packages, and cultural exchange.
This initiative will solidify Lesotho’s place in the growing SADC tourism market and contribute to Africa’s integrated tourism ambitions.
The partnership marks a new era for Lesotho’s tourism aimed at sustainability, inclusiveness, and continuous growth, promising long-term economic and cultural benefits for the country and its people.
The African Tourism Board (ATB) has recently expanded its collaborations with multiple African governments, including partnerships with Rwanda, Ghana, and Botswana to promote sustainable tourism development and cross-border travel.
These initiatives focus on capacity building, marketing campaigns, and infrastructure improvements. ATB also supports pan-African events that encourage cultural exchange and regional tourism integration, further driving growth across the continent’s tourism sector.
