For airports, this technology enables real-time video streaming, faster check-ins, seamless digital signage updates, and enhanced passenger services such as augmented reality for navigation and biometric verification.

OMAN – Oman Airports has set a new global benchmark by becoming the first airport operator worldwide to deploy Wi-Fi 7 technology, introducing next-generation connectivity at Muscat International Airport.
This milestone underscores Oman’s ambition to spearhead digital transformation in aviation and strengthens its standing as a regional innovation hub, aligning with Oman Vision 2040.
The rollout forms part of a strategic collaboration between Oman Airports and Huawei, aimed at creating an advanced digital infrastructure to meet the future demands of smart airports.
Wi-Fi 7, based on the IEEE 802.11be standard, represents a leap forward in wireless connectivity, offering maximum data rates up to 46.1 Gbps, which is roughly four to five times faster than previous Wi-Fi 6 standards.
It achieves such speeds through wider 320 MHz channel bandwidths, advanced multi-link operation (MLO), and 4K quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), enabling simultaneous use of multiple frequency bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz).
For airports, this technology enables real-time video streaming, faster check-ins, seamless digital signage updates, and enhanced passenger services such as augmented reality for navigation and biometric verification.
High-capacity, low-latency Wi-Fi 7 supports complex IoT systems for smart security and operational efficiency, transforming passenger experience and airport management.
Its robust performance in high-density environments addresses the growing demands of modern air travel infrastructure, making Wi-Fi 7 essential for the next generation of smart airports.
Serving over 40,000 passengers daily, Muscat International Airport now ensures seamless connectivity across terminals, including departure halls, check-in counters, retail zones, and dining areas.
This upgrade is central to Oman Airports’ broader digital transformation programme designed to enhance the travel journey and promote an innovation-driven operational environment.
Ahmed al Amri, Oman Airports CEO, stated that pioneering Wi-Fi 7 “reaffirms our commitment to innovation and strengthens our leadership in digital advancement.”
Beyond Wi-Fi 7, Oman Airports is advancing other high-tech projects such as next-gen smart security, visual technology platforms, and advanced AI applications, which collectively position it as a leading digital transformation exemplar in Middle Eastern aviation.
This deployment supports faster check-ins, real-time updates, smooth video streaming, and high-capacity connectivity, essential for the evolving demands of modern air travel infrastructure.
