The 15th Magical Kenya Travel Expo delivers new momentum to Africa’s tourism growth

Tourism ministers and officials from more than 50 African nations attended, creating a shared vision for a more integrated and competitive continent-wide travel circuit.

KENYA – The 15th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) held from October 1 to 3, 2025, at Nairobi’s iconic Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum marked a major milestone for the continent’s tourism sector.

This year’s event brought together over 5,000 tourism professionals and more than 350 exhibitors from over 70 countries.

It ignited a powerful platform for collaboration, innovation, and investment that showcased Africa’s unmatched travel potential.

One of the core themes of MKTE 2025 was sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship. Industry leaders engaged in stimulating panels and workshops focused on responsible travel practices, conservation strategies, and ways to harmonize tourism growth with local community benefits.

These discussions reinforced the importance of protecting Africa’s diverse habitats and wildlife while helping local economies flourish.

Intra-African collaboration was emphasized, with various sessions highlighting cross-border partnerships and shared marketing efforts as critical to boosting regional tourism appeal.

Digital transformation was another hot topic, with demonstrations of virtual reality safaris, AI-powered travel platforms, and data-driven marketing solutions designed to enhance traveler experience and destination visibility.

Attendees left with valuable insights and tools for innovating tourism offerings in their home countries.

The expo also celebrated Kenyan culture with vibrant performances, artisan markets, and culinary experiences that highlighted the country’s rich heritage.

Media engagement and content creation opportunities ensured global awareness of Africa’s exciting travel prospects.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki’s keynote underscored the sector’s economic importance: Kenya welcomed 2.4 million international visitors in 2024, generating KSh 452 billion (US$3.3 billion) and creating 1.7 million jobs.

MKTE 2025 not only spotlighted past successes but set a dynamic agenda for investment and growth across Africa’s tourism landscape.
