Wadi Bani Khalid launches US$62M development projects to enhance tourism, infrastructure

With ongoing development, Wadi Bani Khalid is anticipated to experience higher tourism revenues, greater urbanisation, and improved community wellbeing driven by these projects.

OMAN – Various development projects worth RO 24 million (US$62 million) are currently underway in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, located in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.

These initiatives focus on key areas including tourism, roads, entertainment, and infrastructure, aimed at advancing the region’s accessibility and economic growth.

A major highlight is the Wadi Bani Khalid Aqaba Road Project, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology with an investment exceeding RO 13 million (US$33.5 million).

This project is designed to improve vital transport links within the wilayat and enhance connectivity to neighboring regions.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed al Junaibi, Wali of Wadi Bani Khalid, noted that multiple developments are in progress.

These include paving roads that connect Wadi Bani Khalid to other wilayats in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, along with internal roads linking its various villages for smoother movement and transportation.

One key infrastructure effort is the Wadi Bani Khalid Passage Project, spanning 9 kilometers. It starts from the Manakh area near the police station and extends to the village of Muzayri in the wilayat’s center.

This project’s budget stands at RO 13,200,000 (approximately US$34 million) and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

The road is expected to significantly enhance traffic flow, stimulate urban development, support tourism, and boost local economic activities in the wilayat.

In addition to road infrastructure, tourism and entertainment projects are progressing under the supervision of Al Sharqiyah North Governorate and various government sectors. These initiatives aim to elevate the wilayat’s attractiveness and visitor experience.

Collectively, these development efforts reflect a holistic push to strengthen economic diversification, boost employment, and improve the residents’ quality of life.

The improved connectivity will provide easier access for tourists and locals alike, positioning Wadi Bani Khalid as a more accessible destination within Oman’s growing tourism market.

These strategic investments balance infrastructure advancement with preservation of the wilayat’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

As Wadi Bani Khalid grows, the region is expected to see an uptick in tourism revenues, increased urbanisation, and enhanced community wellbeing through these projects.

Such improvements align with Oman’s broader development goals, fostering sustainable growth across its diverse governorates.
