Turkish Airlines approves flights to Bissau, expanding West Africa network to 20 destinations

The airline operates flights to 19 cities across 15 countries in the region, serving major economic and cultural hubs such as Abidjan, Accra, Conakry, Dakar, and Lagos.

GUINEA-BISSAU – Turkish Airlines has made a strategic decision to expand its footprint in West Africa by planning to add Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, to its extensive flight network.

While specific dates, frequency, and aircraft types remain undisclosed, the airline confirmed its board of directors has approved launching scheduled flights to Bissau, contingent on market conditions and operational availability.

It is still unclear whether the new services will be non-stop from Istanbul or operate via connections through existing regional hubs.

Nevertheless, this addition is widely regarded as a significant move to further solidify Turkish Airlines’ standing as a major global aviation player.

By incorporating Bissau, Turkish Airlines will mark its 20th destination in Central and West Africa.

The airline currently serves 19 cities across 15 countries in the region, including economic and cultural centers like Abidjan, Accra, Conakry, Dakar, and Lagos.

This expanding network highlights Turkish Airlines’ focused growth strategy in African markets, responding to increasing demand for air travel throughout the continent.

Currently, the airline offers more than 31,572 weekly seats to West Africa, a marked increase from 27,096 seats offered the previous year and 29,260 seats in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic disruptions.

This steady capacity growth reflects Turkish Airlines’ commitment to meeting rising travel demand in and out of the region.

Notably, destinations such as Ouagadougou, Bamako, and Banjul have experienced substantial capacity growth due to increased passenger volumes and regional connectivity needs.

Turkish Airlines is strategically aligning its network to optimise access to key markets while supporting economic and cultural exchanges.

The airline’s expansion into Bissau is expected to foster stronger trade, tourism, and diplomatic ties between Turkey and Guinea-Bissau.

It also positions Turkish Airlines to capture new market opportunities emerging in West Africa’s growing aviation landscape.

This latest development reaffirms Turkish Airlines’ ambition to be the leading carrier connecting Africa to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East while capitalising on dynamic regional growth.

As Turkish Airlines continues to invest in African routes, new flight additions like Bissau will enhance traveller choice and accessibility, driving the broader industry’s recovery and expansion.
