Lotteria, operated by Lotte GRS, an affiliate of the Lotte Group, is strategically expanding into Southeast Asia, tapping into the region’s rising demand for Korean-style quick-service dining.

MALAYSIA – South Korean fast-food giant Lotteria has announced its plans to open its inaugural outlet in Malaysia in 2025 as part of a strategic move to broaden its international footprint.
Operated by Lotte GRS, an affiliate of the Lotte Group, Lotteria is making a concerted push into the Southeast Asian market, capitalizing on the region’s growing appetite for Korean-inspired quick-service cuisine.
To facilitate this expansion, Lotte GRS has signed a master franchise agreement with Malaysia’s Serai Group.
This partnership grants Serai Group the exclusive rights to open and operate Lotteria outlets throughout Malaysia.
Additionally, the agreement empowers Serai Group with the ability to sub-franchise these rights to third parties, enabling a robust rollout plan across the country.
The collaboration aims to weave Lotteria’s distinct burger offerings and Korean flavors into Malaysia’s vibrant food scene.
The company has ambitious growth plans, targeting the launch of 30 locations in Malaysia over the next five years.
This expansion trajectory reflects Lotteria’s confidence in capturing local consumer interest by leveraging its popular menu items such as the Bulgogi Burger and Shrimp Burger, alongside other Korean-inspired dishes that emphasize bold flavors and unique tastes not commonly found in conventional fast-food chains.
Currently, Lotte GRS operates approximately 1,000 outlets in South Korea and about 320 stores globally, including in countries like Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, and Mongolia.
The move into Malaysia represents its latest foray into international markets, alongside plans to debut in the United States with a flagship outlet in Orange County, California, also slated for 2025.
With Malaysia’s rapidly expanding urban population and growing demand for diverse dining options, Lotteria’s entry through a strong local partner places it in an excellent position to accelerate its regional prominence.
The partnership with Serai Group, a well-established Malaysian retailer with a deep understanding of local consumer preferences, is expected to provide valuable market insights and operational support critical for long-term success.
This strategic expansion underscores Lotteria’s ambitions to not only extend its global presence but also to introduce the Korean fast-food experience to new, dynamic markets, offering a unique blend of taste, convenience, and cultural appeal tailored for local audiences.
