Group CEO Mesfin Tasew announced at a press briefing on August 5 in Addis Ababa that the airline carried 19 million passengers in the fiscal year, up from 17 million the previous year.

ETHIOPIA – Ethiopian Airlines Group reported a robust revenue of US$7.6 billion for the 2024/2025 fiscal year, cementing its status as Africa’s largest airline by revenue and network reach.
According to Group CEO Mesfin Tasew in a press briefing held on August 5 in Addis Ababa, the carrier transported a total of 19 million passengers during the fiscal year, up from 17 million the previous year.
Of these, 15.2 million were international travelers while 3.9 million flew domestic routes within Ethiopia.
The airline also significantly expanded its fleet and operations, acquiring 13 new aircraft that enhance capacity and modernize its offerings.
Ethiopian Airlines launched six new international destinations, extending its comprehensive network to 145 countries globally.
This expansion enables the airline to better connect Africa with the rest of the world and support increasing tourism and business travel demand.
Despite global economic uncertainties and operational challenges linked to conflicts in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopian Airlines demonstrated resilience.
The CEO noted the impact of evolving regulations in the United States and geopolitical tensions, which complicated operations, but affirmed the airline’s ability to sustain growth and profitability.
The company also reported strong performance in its cargo segment, moving approximately 785,000 tonnes of freight, which remains a critical revenue driver amid the passenger travel recovery.
Cargo operations have become increasingly important for the airline’s diversification and logistics capabilities.
Mesfin Tasew highlighted ongoing investments in fleet renewal with plans to add 20 aircraft in 2026 to support growing passenger volumes and replace aging planes.
The airline’s main hub, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, which currently handles 25 million passengers annually, is nearing capacity.
A new mega airport project is underway 45 kilometers southeast of Addis Ababa, intended to become Africa’s largest airport by 2029 with a capacity of 100 million passengers per year.
These strategic expansions and operational strengths position Ethiopian Airlines as a pivotal player in driving air connectivity and fostering economic growth in Africa.
The company’s performance underscores its vital role in enhancing tourism, trade, and investment opportunities across the continent.
