The company’s design team developed Domidog to travel over sand and deter opportunistic birds, ensuring pizzas reach customers safely and without interruption.

UK – Domino’s UK has announced the launch of Domidog, a robotic canine developed as a novel solution to deliver pizzas to customers at selected beach locations.
This state-of-the-art prototype aims to directly address the persistent problem of seagulls disrupting outdoor dining experiences for beachgoers.
The company’s design team has engineered Domidog to navigate across sand while warding off opportunistic birds, ensuring customers receive their pizzas safely and undisturbed.
Recent surveys highlight that seagulls are among the top ten nuisances for visitors to Britain’s seaside resorts.
As many as 61% of respondents have expressed concerns about food theft by seagulls, making the Domidog a timely innovation.
By combining robotics with advanced deterrence features such as motion sensors, noise emitters, and realistic canine movement, the system simulates the presence of a dog, naturally discouraging seagulls from approaching.
Domidog’s prototype underwent testing at popular beaches, including a well-documented launch in Irvine, Scotland.
Feedback from local trial participants indicated increased peace of mind while enjoying food outdoors, as the robotic assistant successfully kept both the pizzas and customers’ other snacks safe.
The robot operates through a remote navigation system and is programmed to interact with customers using playful gestures and pre-recorded messages, adding an entertaining touch to each delivery.
Domino’s UK views Domidog as more than a seasonal marketing initiative. The company aims to explore further applications for hospitality robotics at leisure destinations, festivals, and outdoor parks.
If ongoing trials prove successful, Domino’s could eventually roll out the canine robots to more coastal towns and major events across the United Kingdom.
This innovative project supports Domino’s broader commitment to using technology to improve the customer experience and solve real-world challenges.
The company has already used drones and self-driving vehicles in delivery trials, but the Domidog introduces animal-inspired design with practical, customer-focused features.
Domino’s notes that the robot is powered by rechargeable batteries and built from weather-resistant materials for safe operation in unpredictable seaside climates.
Moving forward, Domino’s will continue to gather feedback from both customers and staff, refining Domidog’s performance and expanding its feature set.
Future iterations may include voice control, advanced navigation using artificial intelligence, and integration with loyalty programs for added convenience.
In summary, Domidog demonstrates how Domino’s UK adapts technology to unique cultural challenges, transforming an everyday inconvenience into a positive, memorable brand experience for beachgoers and outdoor dining enthusiasts.
