OpenTable unveils AI concierge assistant to enhance restaurant discovery, dining experiences

Concierge leverages OpenTable’s extensive database, which includes menus, guest reviews, and comprehensive restaurant descriptions.

GLOBAL – OpenTable has introduced Concierge, a new AI-driven assistant designed to transform how diners find and interact with more than 60,000 restaurants worldwide.

The launch marks a significant advancement in restaurant discovery technology, promising rapid access to detailed information and tailored recommendations.

Concierge leverages OpenTable’s extensive database, which includes menus, guest reviews, and comprehensive restaurant descriptions.

It uses sophisticated artificial intelligence powered by Perplexity and OpenAI, delivering answers to diners’ questions in seconds.

This intelligent assistant functions as a digital dining expert, streamlining every stage of the decision-making process.

Users can ask the Concierge about restaurant locations, standout menu items, and the general dining atmosphere. The AI responds with clear details about seating, ambiance, and specialties, giving guests a reliable sense of what to expect before booking.

A particularly useful feature is its support for dietary needs. Diners can inquire about gluten-free, vegan, or allergy-friendly options, and the assistant will highlight which restaurants best accommodate those preferences.

This helps diners with specific requirements book confidently, avoiding the hassle of calling venues for clarification.

The Concierge assistant is embedded directly within each restaurant’s profile on OpenTable.

Diners no longer need to sift through multiple review sites or social media pages for essential details; instead, they receive instant, relevant answers inside the booking platform.

Common questions, such as opening hours, menu highlights, address, and special accommodations, are addressed swiftly, saving valuable time for both guests and restaurant staff.

OpenTable’s data shows that over half of diners research a venue before booking, spending an average of 21 minutes per search.

Moreover, 27% of diners have abandoned bookings due to difficulty finding critical information online.

By providing responsive, AI-powered support, Concierge aims to convert more browsers into bookers and increase reservation rates for restaurants.

Restaurants also benefit from this technology, as it reduces time spent fielding repetitive guest questions and enables staff to focus on hospitality.

The AI’s integration with established technology partners, such as Perplexity, OpenAI, Slang AI, and PolyAI, further enhances efficiency and customer service capabilities.

Looking ahead, OpenTable plans to expand Concierge’s capabilities to include direct reservation bookings, ensuring that diners can move seamlessly from inquiry to confirmed table without leaving the app.
