Serengeti Breweries, National College of Tourism launch ‘Learning for Life’ to empower Tanzanian youth in hospitality

This collaborative initiative reflects a shared commitment by SBL and NCT to address the skills shortage in the hospitality industry, which is critical to supporting Tanzania’s ambitions as a premier tourist destination.

TANZANIA – Serengeti Breweries Limited (SBL) and the National College of Tourism (NCT) have joined forces to deliver a pioneering skills development initiative aimed at equipping young Tanzanians with the competencies needed for successful careers in the hospitality and tourism sector.

The ‘Learning for Life’ programme recently celebrated the graduation of its inaugural cohort at NCT’s Dar es Salaam campus, with 109 participants completing comprehensive training designed to bridge the gap between education and employment in Tanzania’s rapidly expanding tourism economy.

This collaborative initiative reflects a shared commitment by SBL and NCT to address the skills shortage in the hospitality industry, which is critical to supporting Tanzania’s ambitions as a premier tourist destination.

By focusing on practical, industry-relevant training, the programme prepares graduates to meet the evolving demands of hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and other tourism-related enterprises.

The ‘Learning for Life’ curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects including customer service excellence, food and beverage management, hospitality operations, and sustainable tourism practices.

Emphasis is placed on experiential learning, with students gaining hands-on experience through internships and real-world projects facilitated by SBL and its partners.

This approach ensures that graduates are job-ready and capable of contributing effectively from day one.

The programme’s success is further highlighted by its gender-inclusive approach, empowering young women to pursue careers in a sector traditionally dominated by men. This aligns with broader national goals to promote gender equality and inclusive economic growth.

SBL’s Managing Director expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “Investing in human capital is essential for the sustainable growth of Tanzania’s tourism industry. Through ‘Learning for Life,’ we are nurturing the next generation of hospitality professionals who will drive innovation and excellence in the sector.

NCT’s leadership also emphasized the programme’s role in enhancing employability and fostering industry collaboration. By aligning academic training with market needs, the initiative supports Tanzania’s Vision 2025 goals for economic diversification and job creation.

As the tourism sector continues to expand, initiatives like ‘Learning for Life’ are vital in creating a skilled workforce capable of delivering world-class hospitality experiences.

The partnership between Serengeti Breweries and the National College of Tourism sets a benchmark for industry-academia collaboration, contributing significantly to Tanzania’s socio-economic development.
