Bolt South Africa launches flight tracking for scheduled rides to enhance airport pick-up experience

The introduction of flight tracking comes amid a surge in pre-booked rides, which have increased by 275% in South Africa.

SOUTH AFRICA – Bolt South Africa has introduced an innovative feature called Flight Tracking for Scheduled Rides, designed to streamline airport pick-ups by syncing customers’ flight details directly with their ride bookings.

This new functionality automatically adjusts pick-up times if a flight is delayed or cancelled, or cancels the ride at no extra cost to the customer, providing a seamless and stress-free travel experience.

To use the feature, customers simply tap the ‘Schedule’ button on the Bolt app home screen next to the destination search bar.

After entering their arrival airport and destination, they select ‘Add flight details’ to input key information such as the flight’s landing date, airline, flight number, or departure city.

Users can also specify how many minutes after landing they wish to be picked up.

Bolt then continuously monitors the flight status and automatically reschedules the pick-up time based on any updates, ensuring riders are not left waiting unnecessarily or charged for cancelled rides.

Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager at Bolt South Africa, highlighted the benefits of the new feature by saying, “With Flight Tracking for Scheduled Rides, our private and Bolt Business customers can now enjoy peace of mind knowing their ride will adjust if their flight is delayed or cancelled at no extra charge.”

“This means less time spent waiting at the airport and more reliable, seamless travel regardless of the hour,” he added.

The introduction of flight tracking comes amid a surge in pre-booked rides, which have increased by 275% in South Africa.

The feature is especially valuable for corporate travelers using Bolt Business, as it enhances reliability while offering centralized billing and detailed reporting, making employee and client transportation more efficient.

By integrating real-time flight data with ride scheduling, Bolt aims to reduce wait times, improve customer satisfaction, and strengthen its position as a trusted mobility partner at South Africa’s busiest airports.

This innovation exemplifies how technology can enhance the hospitality and travel sectors by delivering convenience and reliability to travelers navigating complex journeys.

Bolt is an official ride-hailing partner at more than 30 airports globally, including major hubs like OR Tambo International Airport (JNB), Cape Town International Airport (CPT), King Shaka International Airport (DUR), Lanseria International Airport (HLA), and Port Elizabeth Airport (PLZ).
