At the heart of AHLA’s agenda is a call to reform the H-2B visa program, which many hotels rely on to fill seasonal and temporary labor shortages, especially in resort destinations.
USA – The US hotel industry, led by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), has launched a sweeping and strategic advocacy campaign in Washington, D.C., mobilizing more than 250 hospitality leaders to urge Congress for immediate legislative action.
Confronted with rising operational costs, persistent labor shortages, and a shifting economic landscape, AHLA members are pushing for urgent reforms to workforce visa programs, permanent tax deductions for small businesses, and the preservation of pro-growth tax provisions.
This unified effort reflects the industry’s bold commitment to securing policy changes that protect hotel jobs, empower small business owners, and sustain economic momentum nationwide.
Last week, representatives from every segment of the hotel industry, including major chains, independent hotels, franchisees, and management companies, converged in the nation’s capital to engage directly with lawmakers during critical Budget Reconciliation and tax reform negotiations.
These 250-plus delegates brought firsthand insights from diverse markets, sharing how federal policies impact their communities and emphasizing the need for legislative support to ensure the hospitality sector’s continued recovery and growth.
At the heart of AHLA’s agenda is a call to reform the H-2B visa program, which many hotels rely on to fill seasonal and temporary labor shortages, especially in resort destinations.
Expanding lawful hiring channels and investing in workforce training are vital to addressing the ongoing talent gap that threatens hotel operations.
Additionally, AHLA advocates for permanent tax deductions tailored to small business hoteliers, enabling them to reinvest in their properties and workforce, while urging Congress to maintain pro-growth tax provisions that foster capital investment and job creation.
The hospitality industry remains a cornerstone of the US economy, generating billions in annual tax revenue and supporting over eight million jobs nationwide.
AHLA’s campaign underscores the sector’s role as an economic engine that fuels local communities, from bustling urban centers to small towns, through job creation, tourism, and business development.
AHLA President and CEO Rosanna Maietta emphasized, “Our industry’s future depends on timely legislative action that addresses workforce challenges and provides tax relief.”
“By speaking with one voice, we are demonstrating the power of unity and the critical importance of hotels to America’s economic vitality.”
This advocacy initiative is part of AHLA’s broader strategy to influence federal policy through ongoing engagement, regional summits, and grassroots campaigns that connect hoteliers with lawmakers year-round.
As Congress finalizes key legislation, the hotel industry remains vigilant and proactive in shaping policies that will enable it to thrive amid evolving economic conditions.
