EGYPT – Minor Hotels, a global hospitality group with over 560 properties across 58 countries, has announced a new partnership with Egypt-based Soma Bay Hotel Company SAE to develop a luxury resort under its prestigious Anantara brand in Soma Bay, Egypt.
This marks Minor Hotels’ first venture into the Egyptian market and reflects its ongoing commitment to expanding its footprint in the Middle East and Africa.
Set on a scenic peninsula along the Red Sea, Soma Bay is a 2,500-acre resort community located approximately 45 kilometers south of Hurghada International Airport.
Known for its natural beauty and wide range of leisure activities such as diving, windsurfing, and sailing, Soma Bay has established itself as a premier destination for luxury travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation.
The area also features one of the region’s largest naturally occurring spas and thalassotherapy centers, offering seawater-based wellness treatments that capitalize on the Red Sea’s mineral-rich waters.
The upcoming Anantara resort and branded residence complex will bring the brand’s signature blend of authentic cultural experiences and Thai-rooted hospitality to this vibrant destination.
Since its inception in 2001, Anantara has built a reputation for delivering immersive travel experiences that connect guests to the local culture and environment, with over 50 properties spanning Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian Ocean.
Dillip Rajakarier, CEO of Minor Hotels and Group CEO of parent company Minor International, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting Soma Bay Hotel Company’s strong regional expertise and global outlook as key factors for success.
He emphasized the collaboration as a milestone in expanding Minor Hotels’ global reach and enhancing luxury hospitality offerings in Egypt.
Deema Abu Ghazaleh, Chairman of Soma Bay Hotel Company, described the partnership as a significant step for both Soma Bay and Egypt’s luxury hospitality sector, underscoring their shared vision for sustainable growth, innovation, and excellence.
While detailed plans and timelines for the resort’s opening will be announced later this year, the project is expected to elevate Soma Bay’s status as a global luxury destination and contribute to the broader development of Egypt’s Red Sea tourism corridor.
This collaboration also aligns with Minor Hotels’ recent strategic moves across Africa and the Middle East, including its management agreement for a property in Johannesburg, South Africa.
