The camp will feature 16 luxurious tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa, each offering an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing, an innovative first for the region.
TANZANIA – Marriott International, Inc. has signed an agreement to open the first-ever Autograph Collection safari camp, Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, expected to debut in Q3 2025.
Located in Tanzania’s Serengeti, it will offer a unique, immersive safari experience, marking a milestone for the brand’s expansion into nature-based travel.
Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, situated in the heart of the Serengeti ecosystem near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park, promises an extraordinary safari experience.
Positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, the camp lies directly along the Great Migration route, where vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope pass through annually between May and July.
Year-round, the surrounding area teems with wildlife, including lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and giraffe, providing remarkable encounters in every season.
Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International, shared excitement about the project, stating, “Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations.”
He emphasized that the Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage would offer a spectacular setting for a property that epitomizes the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.
The camp will feature 16 luxurious tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa, each offering an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing, an innovative first for the region.
Plans for the camp also include a spa, fitness center, swimming pool, and various dining options, including ‘The Boma,’ a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.
Drawing design inspiration from the surrounding landscape and local Ikoma culture, the camp aims to incorporate sustainable practices to support conservation efforts and minimize environmental impact.
Guests can look forward to a range of immersive experiences, from thrilling daytime game drives and evocative night safaris to walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and cultural engagements with the local Ikoma tribe.
Rishen Patel, developer of Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Marriott, stating, “This camp will offer an intimate, immersive experience that reflects both the natural wonder of the region and the timeless storytelling of the brand.”
With over 330 hotels worldwide, Autograph Collection is renowned for its unique properties, each offering experiences that are Exactly Like Nothing Else.
