The airline will operate four weekly flights to the vibrant emirate, reinforcing its presence in the Gulf region.
ETHIOPIA – Ethiopian Airlines has announced it is enhancing its Middle East operations with the introduction of a new passenger service to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Ethiopian Airlines is expanding its reach with the launch of a new route to Sharjah, marking a significant milestone in its regional connectivity strategy.
The airline will operate four weekly flights to the vibrant emirate, reinforcing its presence in the Gulf region.
This service will be operated using the modern Boeing 737 MAX, providing passengers with a comfortable, fuel-efficient, and enhanced flying experience.
The new route not only strengthens passenger services but also builds on Ethiopian Airlines’ well-established cargo operations in the Middle East, offering enhanced connectivity for both passengers and freight.
Ethiopian Airlines has long been a key player in the Middle East, having launched its first flights to Dubai in 1979.
Today, it operates over 100 weekly flights to 17 destinations across the region, underscoring its continued commitment to growth and improving regional travel options.
The addition of Sharjah is a strategic move, further solidifying Ethiopian Airlines’ presence in the Gulf, which serves as a vital link between Africa and key global markets.
The Sharjah expansion follows the airline’s recent joint venture with Etihad Airways, aimed at strengthening air connectivity between Africa and the Middle East.
This partnership will also include the launch of flights between Addis Ababa and Abu Dhabi, providing more travel options for passengers in both regions.
These initiatives form part of Ethiopian Airlines’ broader growth strategy to enhance its network and improve travel options between Africa and the Gulf region.
In line with its expansion efforts, Ethiopian Airlines is also making strides with the development of a new international airport, Abusera International Airport, in collaboration with the African Development Bank.
The US$7.8 billion project is set to address the increasing demand for passenger and cargo services and will bolster Ethiopia’s position as a major aviation hub in the region.
The new airport, located 40 km from the current Bole International Airport, is expected to complement the expansion of the existing infrastructure, further enhancing Ethiopian Airlines’ role in connecting Africa to the rest of the world.
