Few&Far Luvhondo opens in Limpopo, South Africa with solar-powered cable car, clifftop suites

SOUTH AFRICA – The founders of Under Canvas have launched Few & Far Luvhondo, a new carbon-neutral safari set in the Soutpansberg mountains of Limpopo, South Africa, surrounded by UNESCO’s Vhembe Biosphere Reserve.

Few & Far Luvhondo, a unique eco-lodge, blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings with its striking design by South Africa’s Nicholas Plewman Architects and Ohkre Collective.

The main lodge features a curved, tree-topped canvas roof that mimics the landscape, with a spacious wraparound deck centered around a tree.

Nearby, a Baobab tree laden with fruit offers shade over the deck, barbecue area, and dance space, where traditional Venda drummers and dancers perform.

The property hosts just six suites, including Clifftop Suite #3, which I had the pleasure of staying in. This 550-square-foot suite offers floor-to-ceiling screened doors with cream blackout curtains, a cozy nook with two caramel leather chairs, and a king-size bed framed by a sheer mosquito canopy.

The bar is stocked with wine, beer, and various beverages, while bottles of Capetown’s New Harbor Distillery whiskey and gin, along with snacks, are also available.

An outdoor area includes a plunge pool, lounge space, dining table, and an outdoor shower, all offering stunning mountain and valley views.

Each suite draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, with design elements such as a rock-floor shower that mirrors the riverbed experienced during morning game drives.

Elegant brass fixtures complement the suite’s natural textures. Room rates range from US$1,800 per night in low season for a shared suite to US$3,400 per night for a single-occupancy suite during high season.

Discounted rates are available for children, with those under 6 staying free.

Chef Sox emphasizes the flavors of Luvhondo, bringing the essence of the landscape directly to the plate. With a simple setup, where everything is prepped and cooked daily in a kitchen with only one fridge, the meals highlight the local environment.

The eco-lodge’s infinity pool, perched on a cliff, offers drinks and towels on request. The upcoming Solfari electric cable car will provide silent, scenic views across the treetops.

The property’s spa, where therapist Nungo Ravele offers treatments like detoxifying Baobab body wraps and facials, reflects the local commitment to organic ingredients.

Adjacent to the entrance stands an ancient Baobab tree, estimated to be 3,000 years old, adding to the area’s natural charm.
