Maureva Partners with AFRAA to drive growth and innovation in Africa’s aviation sector

AFRICA – Maureva, a leader in airline software and service solutions, has announced a key partnership with the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), emphasizing their joint commitment to advancing the growth and development of Africa’s aviation sector.

Through this strategic alliance with the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) Maureva aims to extend its expertise in Airline Financial Management, Commercial Operations, Passenger Services, and Business Intelligence to African carriers.

This collaboration aims to enhance airlines’ revenue protection strategies, reduce operational expenses, digitize cargo workflows, optimize flight and crew scheduling, and leverage data for smarter decision-making.

The partnership is designed to bolster airlines’ competitiveness and support data-driven approaches in their operations.

Maureva, with its significant presence across Africa, is already assisting several airlines, including 12 AFRAA member carriers.

The company’s offices in Mauritius and Reunion Island position it to provide tailored solutions that promote long-term sustainability for African airlines.

Gerald Furlong, Managing Director of Maureva, expressed the company’s enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting their shared commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and excellence in African aviation.

He emphasized that the collaboration would address industry challenges and create new opportunities for AFRAA members.

This strategic alliance aligns with the growth observed in Africa’s travel sector, which has shown significant progress over the past year.

During the first quarter of 2024, African airlines carried approximately 33% of the total international traffic, with a seasonal boost driven by the Easter holiday.

The African Airlines Association (AFRAA) aims to replicate this performance in the first quarter of 2025.

In terms of traffic composition, intra-African traffic accounted for 30%, while domestic traffic made up 37%.

Passenger revenue for the first quarter of 2024 saw an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

International traffic in Q1 2024 was led by intra-African routes, which represented 44%, with Europe being the primary destination for African airlines.

AFRAA, established in 1968, is the leading trade organization for African airlines.

Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, it advocates for the growth of the African aviation sector, aiming to create a sustainable, connected, and affordable air transport network across the continent. Its members represent over 85% of the international air traffic handled by African carriers.
