With capacity soaring from 175,000 passengers annually to a staggering 1.6 million, that’s growth of more than 800%, a number that makes airport planners weak in the knees.

SAUDI ARABIA – The new Al Jouf International Airport has officially began operations, on February 26, receiving its first flight as activities transferred completely from the old facility to this gleaming newcomer.
With capacity soaring from 175,000 passengers annually to a staggering 1.6 million, that’s growth of more than 800%, a number that makes airport planners weak in the knees.
Saudi Arabia’s aviation landscape just got a stunning upgrade.
A Terminal Built for 2026 and Beyond
The 24,000-square-meter passenger terminal doesn’t just look pretty, it works hard.
Sixteen check-in counters await travelers, with two reserved for self-service speed demons.
Eleven departure and arrival gates keep things flowing, while five dual passport control counters mean less time queuing and more time exploring.
With 648 parking spaces and a host of integrated facilities, this airport means business.
Where Heritage Meets High-Tech
Here’s where it gets clever.
The terminal’s design draws inspiration from Al Jouf’s rich heritage, and those influences aren’t just decorative.
Outside, 5,000 square meters of green spaces are adorned with olive trees, a nod to the region’s famous groves.
Travelers step off the plane and immediately feel connected to the place, not just passing through a generic glass box.
Setting a New Standard for Inclusive Travel
This airport isn’t just about moving bodies efficiently. It’s about moving all bodies comfortably.
The facility features dedicated sensory rooms for travelers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a thoughtful touch that recognizes neurodiverse travelers need different spaces.
Accessible services for people with disabilities are woven throughout, ensuring everyone experiences the same dignity and ease.
Commercial spaces spanning 1,700 square meters round out the offering, because travel isn’t just about getting there, it’s about enjoying the journey.
Part of Something Bigger
Affiliated with the Second Airports Cluster, Al Jouf’s new gateway represents Saudi Arabia’s broader aviation ambitions.
As the Kingdom prepares for millions more visitors under Vision 2030, airports like this become critical infrastructure, not just places planes land, but first impressions of a nation.
If Al Jouf’s offering is any indication, those impressions will be spectacular.
