Chick-fil-A announces plans to transition non-traditional outlets to owner-operator model within the next few years

Every site affected by this change will be thoroughly evaluated in coordination with current license holders and campus administrators to ensure a smooth transition that maintains operational continuity and fosters strong stakeholder collaboration.

GLOBAL – Chick-fil-A has outlined a strategic plan to transform how it manages its non-traditional restaurants, such as those in college campuses and similar venues, by shifting from licensed agreements to an owner-operator business structure.

This transition is expected to take place within the next few years and will not involve airport locations, which remain unaffected.

Each location covered by this change will be carefully assessed in partnership with existing license holders and campus administrators to ensure a seamless shift that supports both operational continuity and stakeholder collaboration.

Enhanced Customer and Employee Experience

After conversion, customers will benefit from continued access to Chick-fil-A’s comprehensive digital platform, including its mobile app and the Chick-fil-A One loyalty program, maintaining convenience and personalized engagement.

Employees working at these owner-operated restaurants will also become eligible for the Chick-fil-A Remarkable Futures scholarship, promoting educational opportunities and career advancement.

Strategic Intent and Long-Term Benefits

This move reflects Chick-fil-A’s ongoing dedication to delivering a superior customer experience driven by local ownership, which fosters deeper community connections and operational excellence.

The company believes that embracing the owner-operator model across these venues will allow it to expand its hallmark hospitality and quality, reinforcing sustainable growth.

Looking Ahead

As the rollout progresses, Chick-fil-A anticipates that its well-established operational model will enhance service delivery and guest satisfaction in non-traditional settings, further strengthening its brand presence and business resilience.

In addition to the shift toward owner-operator models, Chick-fil-A continues to pioneer innovation through Daybright, a new beverage-focused restaurant launched in late 2025 in Hiram, Georgia.

Daybright features a dual drive-thru, compact dining area, and a menu centered on specialty coffees, teas, and fresh bakery items made on-site, emphasizing quality and craftsmanship.

Daybright serves as a live test lab for Chick-fil-A’s evolving operational technology, including data-driven lane management, mobile-first guest experiences, and AI-supported kitchen workflows.

This smaller format enables rigorous testing of new hardware and digital tools, such as automated brewing and inventory sensors, without disrupting larger operations.

Additionally, Chick-fil-A’s investment in predictive ordering, guest personalization, and loyalty integrations has been instrumental in refining service efficiency and customer experience. Through Daybright and other innovations, Chick-fil-A aims to blend technology with hospitality, setting industry benchmarks for fast-casual dining.
