In his new role, Lee will lead Wendy’s international technology strategy and its execution.

GLOBAL – Wendy’s has welcomed Sang Lee as its new Vice President of International Technology, a position he began earlier this month. Lee reports directly to Chief Information Officer Matt Spessard.
His appointment supports Wendy’s ambitions to strengthen its international technology roadmap and deliver enhanced customer experiences worldwide.
Lee brings over 20 years of deep expertise in transformation and modernization within the restaurant and hospitality sectors.
His career includes senior technology leadership roles at major brands such as Giordano’s, TGI Fridays, and Yum Brands, where he led large-scale digital innovation initiatives.
In his new role, Lee is responsible for spearheading Wendy’s international technology strategy and execution.
This includes developing and deploying smart technology tools and solutions that enable Wendy’s to scale rapidly and sustain growth across international markets.
He will lead efforts to improve digital ordering, drive-thru AI, and emerging technologies that enhance operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
Wendy’s global expansion strategy involves opening approximately 1,000 new restaurants over the next three years.
Technology is a critical enabler of this growth, supporting both operational performance and a consistent customer experience.
Lee’s role acts as a vital bridge between this physical expansion and the company’s technology investments.
CFO and interim CEO Ken Cook highlighted technology’s strategic importance at Wendy’s investor day, noting investments in AI-powered drive-thru systems, digital menu boards, and voice-activated ordering platforms.
These initiatives have driven improvements in order accuracy and labor efficiency, translating into higher average checks and improved profitability.
These innovations are essential for competing in the rapidly evolving quick-service restaurant (QSR) sector.
Former CEO Kirk Tanner echoed these sentiments in recent earnings calls, noting gains in company-operated restaurant margins linked to technology adoption.
Wendy’s continues to invest significantly in technology, with US$10 million spent in the latest fiscal quarter alone.
Matt Spessard expressed excitement about Lee’s impact, believing his leadership will accelerate the international technology roadmap and help deliver innovative tech-driven customer experiences in diverse global markets.
Lee’s appointment marks a milestone in Wendy’s digital transformation journey, underscoring the company’s commitment to leveraging technology as a critical driver of competitive advantage.
