The official Baghdad–Muscat route is scheduled to commence on September 6, following final approvals from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA).

IRAQ – The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has approved Iraqi Airways to operate scheduled flights to Muscat International Airport, enhancing tourism and trade exchange between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq.
This development follows the arrival of Iraqi Airways’ inaugural flight at Salalah Airport, a milestone that came shortly after Fly Baghdad began its direct service from Baghdad International Airport to Salalah.
The Salalah flight signifies a foundational effort to establish stronger air links between Iraq and Oman.
The official air route from Baghdad to Muscat is set to launch on September 6 after all final clearances were obtained from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA).
Iraqi Airways will begin with two weekly flights between the Iraqi capital and Oman’s main international gateway.
In addition to the Baghdad service, Iraqi Airways plans to operate flights from Najaf International Airport to Muscat in an initial phase.
This expansion aims to expand travelers’ options and improve regional connectivity.
A second phase of operations is expected to include flights from Basra International Airport to Muscat, further broadening the network and facilitating easier travel between the two countries.
This initiative aligns with Iraq’s Transport Ministry strategy to increase openness toward regional partners, grow Iraqi Airways’ route network, and boost Iraq’s competitive position in the air transport sector.
Officials emphasize that enhancing air connectivity with Oman supports not only tourism but also trade, business exchanges, and cultural ties, reinforcing bilateral relations.
The expanded flight services create opportunities for increased passenger and cargo traffic, benefitting economies on both sides and promoting mutual development.
The addition of these routes reflects Iraqi Airways’ commitment to modernizing its fleet and expanding its reach amid regional demand for more reliable and convenient air travel.
Passengers traveling between Iraq and Oman can expect improved access to key cities and business hubs, strengthening tourism prospects and fostering closer people-to-people connections.
Enhanced connectivity also supports Oman’s vision to become a regional aviation and tourism hub, leveraging partnerships with Gulf and Middle Eastern carriers.
With the launch of these scheduled flights, Iraqi Airways is set to play an important role in supporting regional integration and economic cooperation.
The initiative underscores growing collaboration in the Gulf region aimed at facilitating efficient transportation links and fostering stronger economic relationships.
Overall, this move represents a strategic milestone for both Oman and Iraq in building more robust and accessible air travel networks.
