Cyberattacks disrupt operations at major Russian restaurant chains including Vkusno i Tochka, Cofix

RUSSIA – Recent cyberattacks have significantly disrupted the digital operations of several prominent Russian restaurant chains and food service providers, according to reports from The Moscow Times.

These incidents highlight growing cybersecurity challenges faced by Russia’s hospitality sector amid increasing digital reliance.

Among the affected brands is Vkusno i Tochka, the fast-food chain that replaced McDonald’s in Russia after its 2022 exit.

The attacks commenced on Friday, 18 July 2025, targeting the infrastructure managed by automation provider iiko and its hosting partner ESTT.

Both companies support vital backend systems, including order management, payment processing, and supply chain coordination for numerous restaurants nationwide.

These systems’ partial paralysis has led to temporary closures and service problems across affected outlets.

Sources report that iiko’s network was infiltrated via sophisticated malware designed to disrupt servers and compromise data integrity.

ESTT’s hosting services, which provide cloud-based solutions for many restaurant clients, were also directly targeted, exacerbating operational hindrances.

The coordinated nature of the cyberattacks indicates a high degree of planning and technical expertise by the perpetrators.
