KENYA – Wilderness, a leading name in sustainable safari tourism, has announced the expansion of its East African portfolio with the upcoming opening of two new properties in Kenya’s renowned Mara Triangle.
Wilderness Mara Villas is scheduled to welcome guests in February 2026, followed by the launch of Wilderness Mara in June 2026.
Both properties will be strategically located at the base of the Oloololo Escarpment, offering guests unparalleled access to the wildlife-rich landscapes of the Maasai Mara.
The new Wilderness Mara property is being developed on the site of the former Little Governors’ Camp, a location steeped in safari heritage.
For over five decades, the Governors’ brand was recognized for setting benchmarks in authenticity, conservation, and community engagement within the region.
The newly rebuilt Wilderness Mara aims to honor and evolve this legacy, blending the timeless charm of classic East African safaris with a modern approach to low-impact luxury.
Hein Prinsloo, CEO of Wilderness Kenya, emphasized the company’s commitment to preserving the essence of the original camp while introducing elevated standards of comfort and sustainability.
“Wilderness has inherited a legacy of pioneering safari from Governors, and we are proud to carry this forward,“ Prinsloo stated.
“Our vision is to blend classic East African hospitality with innovative, environmentally sensitive design, ensuring that our guests experience the magic of the Mara while contributing to its long-term preservation,” he added.
The design and operation of both Wilderness Mara and Wilderness Mara Villas will prioritize sustainability and community integration.
The properties will feature eco-friendly architecture, renewable energy solutions, and initiatives aimed at supporting local Maasai communities through employment, education, and conservation partnerships.
These efforts align with Wilderness’s broader mission to create positive impacts for both people and wildlife across Africa’s most iconic landscapes.
By expanding its presence in Kenya, Wilderness is not only enhancing its portfolio but also contributing to the ongoing evolution of luxury safari tourism in East Africa.
The new properties are expected to attract discerning travelers seeking authentic, immersive experiences that prioritize conservation and cultural respect.
The addition of Wilderness Mara and Wilderness Mara Villas underscores the company’s commitment to redefining the safari experience—where elevated comfort, environmental stewardship, and community collaboration converge to set new benchmarks for responsible tourism in the region.
