Morocco introduces unified star rating system to elevate quality standards across all tourist accommodations

MOROCCO – The Government of Morocco has unveiled a comprehensive star rating system designed to standardize quality assessments across the country’s diverse range of tourist accommodations.

This landmark initiative marks the first time that hotels, riads, guest houses, kasbahs, and other lodging types will be evaluated under a single, internationally recognized classification framework, aiming to enhance visitor experiences and boost the nation’s hospitality sector.

The Ministry of Tourism published five new official orders updating the 2015 tourism lodging law, reflecting a strategic effort to modernize and unify quality standards across Morocco’s vibrant tourism industry.

These regulations establish clear, transparent criteria for accommodation providers, enabling travelers to make informed choices based on consistent and reliable quality indicators.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor highlighted the significance of this development, emphasizing that the new star rating system will apply uniformly to all accommodation categories—from traditional hotels and boutique riads to hotel clubs and historic kasbahs.
