Deliveroo, Manna Drones launch drone food delivery service in Dublin’s Blanchardstown

Customers can order from leading local restaurants, including Musashi, WOWBurger, Boojum, and Elephant & Castle, with meals flown directly to their homes in as little as three minutes, bypassing road traffic and minimizing wait times.

IRELAND – Deliveroo, in partnership with Irish drone operator Manna Drones, has launched a pioneering drone food delivery service in Dublin, Ireland, with the initial rollout focused on the Blanchardstown area.

This innovative service marks a significant leap forward in the evolution of food delivery, as Deliveroo embarks on a test phase to evaluate the potential of drones to transform suburban and hard-to-reach locations into fast, convenient, and sustainable delivery zones.

The new drone delivery service is available to Deliveroo customers within a three-kilometre radius of Blanchardstown, covering neighborhoods such as Clonsilla and Corduff.

Customers can order from leading local restaurants, including Musashi, WOWBurger, Boojum, and Elephant & Castle, with meals flown directly to their homes in as little as three minutes, bypassing road traffic and minimizing wait times.

Drones are deployed from Manna’s local delivery hub, flying at speeds of up to 80 km/h, and upon arrival, they hover and gently lower the food to the ground using a secure, biodegradable tether, ensuring a seamless and contact-free experience.

To use the service, eligible customers must validate their address via the Deliveroo app and confirm a suitable landing area, such as a driveway or garden.

Real-time tracking and notifications provide transparency and convenience throughout the delivery process.

The drones are equipped with advanced safety features, including backup systems and parachutes, and are monitored continuously by a dedicated dispatcher, underscoring the commitment to operational safety and regulatory compliance.

Deliveroo’s collaboration with Manna Drones is part of a broader strategy to reach new customers in suburban areas where traditional delivery can be challenging due to traffic congestion and winding routes.

The company aims to complement its extensive rider network, not replace it, and sees drone deliveries as a way to unlock new growth and support local restaurants by expanding their customer base.

If the test phase proves successful, Deliveroo plans to expand the service to more restaurants and introduce grocery and retail deliveries by the end of 2025.

The launch comes as drone delivery technology gains momentum globally, with Deliveroo joining other major players in leveraging drones for faster, cleaner, and more efficient last-mile logistics.

Manna, which has already completed over 170,000 delivery flights in Dublin and holds full regulatory approvals, brings proven expertise to the partnership.

The initiative also aligns with sustainability goals, as drones can reduce emissions compared to traditional road-based delivery.
