QATAR – Qatar is set to sign its first public-private partnership (PPP) for a new QR20 billion high-end beach resort this Thursday, marking a significant pivot in the nation’s tourism development strategy towards maximising its coastal attractions.
Qatar Tourism Chairman, HE Saad bin Ali al-Kharji, announced the landmark project during his address at the Qatar Economic Forum on Wednesday, highlighting the country’s commitment to offering distinctive luxury experiences that leverage its natural coastline.
The centerpiece of this ambitious expansion is the “Simaisma Project,” strategically located just a 20-minute drive from the prestigious Raffles Doha hotel.
This expansive development is designed to become a premier destination for both regional and international visitors, integrating world-class leisure, entertainment, and hospitality offerings.
Central to the project is the inclusion of the “Land of Legends Theme Park,” which will feature a diverse array of attractions catering to families and thrill-seekers alike, alongside a championship golf course that promises to elevate Qatar’s profile in luxury sports tourism.
HE Saad bin Ali al-Kharji emphasized that the Simaisma Project represents a strategic shift in Qatar’s tourism vision, focusing on the nation’s unique coastal assets to diversify its appeal beyond traditional urban and cultural tourism.
The QR20 billion (US$5.5 billion) investment underscores Qatar’s broader economic diversification goals under Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to reduce reliance on hydrocarbons by bolstering the tourism and hospitality sectors.
The PPP model facilitates collaboration between the government and private investors, combining public oversight with private sector innovation and efficiency to deliver world-class infrastructure and services.
The Simaisma Project is expected to generate significant economic benefits, including job creation, increased foreign direct investment, and enhanced global visibility for Qatar as a luxury tourism destination.
The integration of the Land of Legends Theme Park and golf facilities will also contribute to year-round visitor engagement, supporting sustainable tourism growth.
This development aligns with Qatar’s ongoing efforts to host major international events and expand its hospitality capacity, complementing existing landmarks such as the Raffles Doha and other luxury resorts.
By leveraging its pristine beaches and coastal environment, Qatar is positioning itself as a leading destination for upscale leisure and entertainment in the Middle East.
As the nation prepares to formalize the partnership agreement, stakeholders anticipate that the Simaisma Project will set new benchmarks for luxury tourism development, combining innovative design, cultural authenticity, and environmental stewardship to create a landmark resort experience.
