Royal M Hotel Abu Dhabi champions eco-luxury with pioneering sustainability initiatives

From harnessing solar power to reducing food waste and growing fresh herbs on-site, the hotel is integrating eco-conscious practices into every aspect of its operations.

UAE – Royal M Hotel Abu Dhabi by Gewan has launched a suite of eco-friendly innovations, setting a bold standard in sustainable luxury by cutting waste, conserving energy, and elevating green dining experiences.

Royal M Hotel Abu Dhabi by Gewan is reshaping the definition of luxury in hospitality through a strong commitment to sustainability.

From harnessing solar power to reducing food waste and growing fresh herbs on-site, the hotel is integrating eco-conscious practices into every aspect of its operations.

A key innovation lies in the hotel’s adoption of a fully solar-powered hot water system. With 180 solar panels installed across the property, the system now generates 252 kilowatts of heat energy per hour.

This shift to renewable energy translates to electricity savings of approximately AED 300,000 (US$81,700) each year.

More importantly, it significantly reduces the hotel’s carbon emissions, demonstrating that large-scale hospitality operations can take bold steps toward a more sustainable future.

In addressing food waste, Royal M has implemented an advanced compressing system that reduces 25 kilograms of food waste to just 5 kilograms.

This five-fold reduction helps limit contributions to landfills, cuts greenhouse gas emissions, and supports cleaner, more efficient waste management.

It’s a practical example of how smart technology can be used to solve one of the industry’s most persistent environmental challenges.

Sustainability also finds its way onto the hotel’s plates. Through an in-house micro herb production initiative, Royal M is growing fresh, nutrient-rich herbs right on-site.

This approach not only enhances the freshness and flavour of its culinary offerings but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation and packaging.

It supports the hotel’s wider goal of sustainable gastronomy and delivering a farm-to-table dining experience.

Entertainment, too, has been reimagined through a green lens.

The hotel’s new AED 1.5 million (US$408,400) water laser show offers guests a stunning visual performance using energy-efficient laser technology. Despite its grandeur, the feature is designed to minimize water and energy use, blending innovation with environmental consciousness.

Through these initiatives, Royal M Abu Dhabi is proving that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand.

By embedding eco-friendly solutions into its daily operations, the hotel is setting a new standard for responsible hospitality in the UAE—paving the way for a greener, smarter future in luxury travel.
