Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio debuts in South Africa with Lord Charles Hotel in Cape Town

Spread across 22 acres of landscaped gardens, once part of an 18th-century farm, the hotel offers a tranquil escape that remains deeply connected to the area’s vibrant past.

SOUTH AFRICA – Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy, has launched its first South African property at the iconic Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, Cape Town.

Blending classic elegance with contemporary design, the hotel offers a unique experience that celebrates both the region’s heritage and modern luxury.

Located just 45 minutes from Cape Town and 25 minutes from Cape Town International Airport, the hotel provides convenient access to renowned wine estates, golf courses, beaches, and cultural landmarks.

Spread across 22 acres of landscaped gardens—once part of an 18th-century farm—the hotel offers a tranquil escape that remains deeply connected to the area’s vibrant past.

A major refurbishment in 2022 breathed new life into the hotel, drawing inspiration from Lord Charles Henry Somerset, the founder of South Africa’s first public library and the namesake of Somerset West.

The design now features bold local artwork, abstract installations inspired by indigenous flora, and African patterns that celebrate regional wildlife and plant life.

Each of the 198 rooms is designed with rich emerald tones and comfortable, private outdoor areas that frame sweeping views of the gardens and mountains.

For quiet moments, guests can retreat to the cozy library, perfect for enjoying a book or hot drink.

Culinary experiences are rooted in both South African and British traditions. The Garden Terrace serves continental and full English breakfasts, while La Vigna Restaurant offers elegant dining with regional wines.

Guests can also enjoy afternoon tea in the lobby lounge or relax at St. Andrews Pub, which delivers hearty meals in a laid-back atmosphere.

Amenities include two pools, a fitness centre, tennis courts, and a serene spa. The expansive grounds also feature a gazebo, dam, and gently flowing stream.

For business and events, the hotel offers 11 meeting spaces accommodating up to 500 guests, supported by dedicated planners.

Joining Tribute Portfolio allows us to introduce fresh, unique experiences while preserving the charm and hospitality that make the Lord Charles Hotel so special,” said Julia Ward, General Manager.

With its blend of timeless charm, striking design, and heartfelt service, the Lord Charles Hotel ushers in a new era of luxury hospitality in the Cape Winelands.
