SEYCHELLES – The Tourism Department has hosted the first Sustainable Seychelles Recognition & Certification Ceremony of 2025 on April 3rd at Eden Bleu Hotel, celebrating 42 tourism partners for their dedication to sustainability and advancing the nation’s leadership in eco-conscious and responsible tourism.

As part of its ongoing push for environmentally conscious tourism, the Seychelles has expanded its Sustainable Seychelles Recognition and Certification Programme with the introduction of a new top-tier accolade—the Platinum Award.

Launched under the Sustainable Seychelles brand, the initiative celebrates tourism partners that integrate responsible practices into their daily operations.

The inaugural Platinum Award was presented to Constance Ephelia Resort, recognising its decade-long commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic resilience.

To qualify, establishments must be certified for at least ten years, show consistent improvement, and score at least 90% of total possible points—raising the bar for sustainability in the country’s tourism sector.

Held at Eden Bleu, the ceremony brought together industry leaders, government officials, and sustainability advocates.

The programme, which is voluntary and inclusive, encourages businesses across accommodation, dining, and tours to engage in sustainable tourism and demonstrate measurable impact.

Speaking at the event, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, highlighted the growth of the programme:

With the launch of the new Sustainable Seychelles Programme, we have broadened our ambition, refined our framework, and invited more properties and partners to join a national movement towards sustainability.”

In just two years, 94 properties have earned recognition under the revamped programme. This year alone, 42 new properties were awarded the Silver level, reflecting their strong commitment to sustainable practices.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary for Tourism, Sherin Francis, and representatives from the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change.

Their collective presence signaled a unified national effort toward responsible tourism growth.

The Sustainable Seychelles Programme aims to protect the islands’ pristine beauty while fostering tourism practices that are economically viable and environmentally sound.

With its growing network of certified partners and the introduction of the Platinum tier, Seychelles is setting a strong example of how small island destinations can lead on sustainability.
