KENYA – Saruni Basecamp has successfully launched Basecamp Samburu, an intimate tented camp in Kalama Conservancy, offering stunning views of Mt. Ololokwe and an immersive experience in Kenya’s northern wilderness.
Basecamp Samburu, designed by Norwegian architect Bull Arkitekter, offers a unique luxury safari experience with five elegantly positioned tented suites, including a spacious family tent featuring two bedrooms connected by a central lounge.
Each accommodation is strategically placed to provide panoramic views while maintaining privacy and comfort.
A standout feature of the camp is its two open-air Starbeds, designed for an immersive night under the African sky.
These exclusive suites include private jacuzzis, intimate dining spaces, and full bathroom facilities, ensuring a romantic and unforgettable experience.
Rooted in sustainability, Basecamp Samburu embraces an under-canvas concept that reflects the spirit of early explorers.
Constructed with locally sourced materials, the camp minimizes its environmental footprint while seamlessly blending into the pristine wilderness.
Its minimalist design enhances the safari experience, allowing guests to connect with the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Samburu region.
Guests can engage in a variety of activities, including stargazing, dark-night scorpion safaris, and visits to Samburu villages.
Seasonal Singing Wells excursions offer insight into traditional herding practices, while daily game drives in the Kalama Community Conservancy or Samburu Game Reserve provide opportunities to spot the ‘Samburu Special Five.’
Despite its remote location, the camp ensures modern comfort with complimentary Wi-Fi, solar electricity, private verandahs, and communal dining and lounge spaces.
Saruni Basecamp CEO Jeremiah Mutisya emphasized the company’s commitment to community-driven conservation efforts.
He highlighted Kalama Community Conservancy as a vital partnership between Saruni Basecamp and Samburu tribal landowners, aimed at protecting wildlife while supporting local communities.
The launch of Basecamp Samburu is part of a broader strategy to diversify Kenya’s safari offerings, attracting new categories of travelers, including honeymooners, adventurers, and stargazing enthusiasts.
Saruni Basecamp operates 13 safari lodges and camps, dedicated to conservation through community-based tourism.
Led by a local management team, the company employs 90% of its staff from nearby rural communities, fostering authentic cultural exchanges.
Guests gain a deeper appreciation for East Africa’s landscapes and traditions through immersive experiences hosted by Maasai and Samburu guides.
